Lee Hwi-hyang returns to acting at her husband's suggestion... Reflecting on the hiatus spent raising children

Actress Lee Hwi-hyang revealed her five-year hiatus after marriage and the process of her return to acting.

On the 29th, a video titled "Actress Lee Hwi-hyang Episode 2 (The husband who suggested returning to acting and the start of the heyday)" was released on the YouTube channel ‘Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life’.

Lee Hwi-hyang said that while she was living in Pohang with her husband and focusing on childcare, she received an offer for a play. She revealed that her husband first suggested she appear in it, but she replied, "No. A play is not something you do that easily."

She continued by saying that the most burdensome part was childcare. Lee Hwi-hyang said, "Plays require long periods of practice, so I asked what about childcare, and my husband said he would look after our son himself." She added, "We performed for three months, and my husband was always in the front row."

After returning to the stage, Lee Hwi-hyang received the Presidential Award at a regional theater festival. She explained that she moved up to Seoul to resume her acting career in earnest after her husband told her, "You have to act. You shouldn't stay in the provinces."

Lee Hwi-hyang subsequently appeared in works such as ‘Dew on Every Blade of Grass’ and reached her heyday with ‘Years of Ambition’. She also received help from her husband while preparing for this work, calling it "the drama that made me an actress."

Lee Hwi-hyang married the late Kim Du-jo, who was 19 years her senior, in 1982, and they were widowed in 2005. Kim Du-jo was known to be a former gang member and was reported to have left his life in organized crime after marriage.
