Song Ga-in marks 14th debut anniversary with fan-gifted cake
Song Ga-in celebrated her 14th anniversary since her debut by sharing a photo of a cake gifted by her fans on social media. Since her debut in 2012, she has grown from an unknown singer to a prominent trot artist, most notably through her success on TV CHOSUN's "Miss Trot."
According to media reports, Song Ga-in posted a photo on her SNS on the 12th wearing a crown and holding a cake, writing, “It is already the 14th anniversary of my debut.” She also expressed her gratitude to her fans. She has reached 14 years since entering the music industry in 2012 with "Mountain Wind, River Wind" and "Love Song."
Song Ga-in, who is from Jindo, Jeollanam-do, learned pansori during her childhood and studied at Chung-Ang University in the Department of Korean Music. Her mother, master Song Sun-dan, is an instructor for the Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 72, Jindo Ssitgimgut. The environment in which she grew up encountering traditional music and her major in Korean music became her musical foundation. After her debut, she traveled to event venues nationwide to sing, but it took a long time to make her name known. Anecdotes have been shared that she sometimes received perilla leaves instead of event fees, or that her mother supplemented the insufficient event fees.
Song Ga-in appeared on TV CHOSUN's "Miss Trot" in 2019, where she drew attention with her singing ability and emotional expression, and rose to the position of the first Jin. Her "Bitter Daedong River" stage garnered interest with her sorrowful voice and is even cited as a life-defining trot masterpiece. Following her win, she released songs such as "Mom Arirang" and "I Am Ga-in," and has received love from fans on concert stages.
In "What If It's Not a Flower," released last July, she combined trot with samba house rhythms. The song was introduced as a track that expanded her musical territory from traditional trot. She has also expanded her scope of activity by participating in drama OSTs and game OSTs. The solo concert "Ga-in Moon: The Rising" held in Vietnam last July filled a seating capacity of approximately 700, presenting Korean trot to the local audience.
The fan cafe "AGAIN" is a support group that has cheered for Song Ga-in since her unknown days. Last September, the fans practiced sharing by delivering hometown love donations and scholarships to Jindo. Song Ga-in expressed her gratitude to her fans in the SNS post announcing her 14th debut anniversary.
