Yoo Seung-jun wins appeal against visa denial, drawing renewed attention to his possibility of traveling to South Korea
The court has upheld its decision in the appeal to cancel the refusal to issue an entry visa to Yoo Seung-jun. Yoo expressed his gratitude and apologies to those who have waited for him, noting how his priorities have changed over the 24 years since the incident.
The court's decision that the refusal to issue an entry visa to Yoo Seung-jun must be canceled was maintained in the appeal trial.
On the 9th, Yoo Seung-jun posted a long message on his personal account, questioning the perspective that he lives tied to the past.
He wrote that 24 years have already passed, he has become a father of four, and he is now approaching the age of fifty.
He continued by expressing gratitude and apologies to those who have waited for and supported him, stating that he wanted to meet them in person to say thank you and apologize for causing them heartache.
He also wrote that when he was young, he had the desire to regain his former popularity and glory, but as time passed, the reasons for wanting to meet again and the things he cherishes have changed. He added that he has gained hope to live another day through his family who stayed by his side, their unchanging love, and hope.
Yoo Seung-jun debuted in 1997 and while active in South Korea, promised to enlist in the military through broadcasts, but after departing the country in January 2002 for performance purposes, he acquired United States citizenship and evaded his military service obligation. Subsequently, the Ministry of Justice restricted his entry, judging him to be a person likely to engage in actions that harm the interests of South Korea or public safety based on the Immigration Control Act. He applied for an Overseas Korean (F-4) visa, but as denials continued, he filed several lawsuits to cancel them, and recently won the appeal in his third lawsuit.
