A mountain shining like the sun - Huiyangsan, Mungyeong

Vocalist An Se-gwon passes Smiling Rock and challenges a vertical rope wall... Reaching the summit of Mungyeong's Huiyangsan, the 'short section of Baekdudaegan'

Broadcast: October 4, 2026 (Sun) 6:55 AM KBS 2TV

Huiyangsan rises on the border between Mungyeong, which has served as the northern fence of Gyeongsangbuk-do due to its rugged mountain terrain since ancient times, and Goesan County, North Chungcheong Province, which is surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is named Huiyangsan because its bulging and smooth rock peaks shine white when they receive sunlight. The entire mountain peak is composed of granite masses, and the terrain is so rugged that there are sections where one must hold onto ropes and climb rocks along the ridges leading to the summit. It is a mountain that stands out among the surrounding mountains, called the short section of Baekdudaegan. Vocalist An Se-gwon sets out for Huiyangsan, which possesses massive rock peaks that seem to support the sky.

Before the hike, he heads to Gomosanseong Fortress. It is a natural fortress where the Yeonggang River wraps around it and the mountain ridge descending from Ojeongsan Mountain protects the east, having been constructed by Silla during the Three Kingdoms period for military defense. Passing through the Seonghwangdang, which has protected the village for a long time, he walks through the old tavern street. He moves forward while recalling old stories of scholars who traveled to take civil service exams and peddlers who climbed mountain paths to make a living. He then climbs up above Jinnammun Gate, which stands tall like spreading wings, and walks along the fortress wall path. As he ascends the fortress wall, the refreshing scenery of Jinnamgyoban, one of the eight scenic views of Mungyeong, unfolds at a glance.

The hike of Huiyangsan begins starting from the mountain village of Eunti Village. An Se-gwon, who is climbing a rocky mountain for the second time following Hwangjeongsan Mountain in Danyang, moves his steps while looking forward to what lessons he will learn in nature this time. After passing through the village forest path, the mountains seem to deepen, and soon the full-scale hiking begins, starting with rough stone paths. Walking along the path following the valley, the cool breeze of the forest, which has passed through the hot summer, envelops his entire body. Upon entering the mountain, even small changes that are usually overlooked catch his eye. As he gradually increases his altitude along the stairway path, the strange rocks and stones of Huiyangsan begin to reveal themselves.

As he approaches the summit, the white rock peaks that shine dazzlingly in the sunlight, like their name suggests, appear. After passing Jireumti Pass and reaching the mid-slope, large rocks appear one by one as if blocking the path. Although it is not an easy road, they move forward one step at a time while encouraging each other. After passing the large Smiling Rock, the serious rope section begins. A path climbing by relying on a single rope connected between narrow rocks. Because the rocks are slippery due to the rain that fell the previous day, he takes steps carefully and slowly. A steep vertical wall continues, enough to be called 'semi-climbing,' and he climbs the rock using all the strength in his body.

The white rock peaks shining amidst the greenery head toward the summit. As he climbs, concentrating his steps and breathing on the rough rocky path that even seasoned mountain climbers find difficult, his posture gradually stabilizes, and he begins to enjoy the taste of climbing rocks. He wants to show his family, who are watching his hike, the image of a strong husband and a reliable father. After passing the difficult rope section, he enters the final ridge path. The vast scenery unfolding over the rock plateaus and the cool wind. Passing through pine trees that grow firmly even on steep cliffs, he finally reaches the summit. It was a day so arduous that his whole body feels stiff. Leaving behind the hot summer hike, he waits for the approaching autumn.
