Editorial writer Choi Seon-ho selected as new host of SBS representative current affairs program ‘News Direct’… First broadcast on October 1

‘Choi Seon-ho's News Direct’ launches October 1… “Serious but not heavy, fun but not light”

Writer Choi: “Instead of being a cheerleader for a specific camp, I will deliver useful information and analysis to listeners”

SBS editorial writer Choi Seon-ho will take over as the new host of the representative weekday afternoon current affairs program ‘News Direct’ on SBS 103.5MHz.

‘News Direct,’ which airs weekdays at 5 PM on SBS 103.5MHz, will meet listeners anew as ‘Choi Seon-ho's News Direct’ starting Thursday, October 1. Anchor Pyeon Sang-uk, who has hosted the program since last March, will step down after the broadcast on Wednesday, September 30, and editorial writer Choi Seon-ho will take over the hosting duties.

‘News Direct’ is a current affairs program that examines the day's major news and core issues of our society through interviews and discussions with political figures and commentators from various fields. By broadly capturing the voices of guests with different perspectives, it has delivered complex political and social issues so that listeners can understand them more easily and multidimensionally.

The new host, editorial writer Choi Seon-ho, joined SBS in 1996 and has served as a correspondent in Tokyo, Japan, and as the head of the political news department, and held positions such as the head of the presidential and local election broadcast team in 2022 and the head of ‘SBS Eight O'Clock News’.

Editorial writer Choi Seon-ho expressed his ambitions, stating, “I want to deliver news that is serious but not heavy, and fun but not light,” and added, “I will create a broadcast that provides useful information and analysis to listeners, rather than being a ‘cheerleader’ for a specific camp.”

The newly launching ‘Choi Seon-ho's News Direct’ will be broadcast from 5 PM to 6 PM on weekdays starting Thursday, October 1, through SBS 103.5MHz and the SBS Gorilla app. (End)
