it aims to cap off its success with its first medical noir!
A new horizon for SBS medical dramas!
If ‘Dr. Romantic’ had ‘Romance’,
‘Doctor X’ will flip the script with ‘Noir’!
- ‘Doctor X’ will continue the heat of the SBS undefeated "Cider Universe"! The medical tentpole responsible for the second half of 2026 is ready for launch!
- Having proven the power of SBS medical dramas with ‘Dr. Romantic’, this time it is ‘Noir’! Expectations rise for ‘Doctor X’, which will deliver genre-specific pleasure!
The new SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Doctor X: Era of the White Mafia’ (produced by Studio S, Studio Dragon, and HighZium Studio; hereinafter 'Doctor X') will embark on a new genre variation by combining the refreshing "Cider" sensation unique to SBS Friday-Saturday dramas with medical noir.
Scheduled to premiere on October 9 (Friday), ‘Doctor X: Era of the White Mafia’ depicts the activities of the ‘Mad Count of the Operating Room’, the genius surgeon Doctor X ‘Gye Su-jeong’, who breaks down massive corruption with surgical skills that know neither failure nor compromise.
SBS has built a unique hit brand known as the ‘SBS Cider Universe’ by perfectly capturing home viewers with diverse genres including thriller, action, comedy, and fantasy. Starting with the ‘Taxi Driver’ series, which provided catharsis with the unconventional subject of private revenge agency, and continuing through the refreshing comic action ‘The Fiery Priest’, the action fantasy ‘The Judge from Hell’, and the recently syndrome-inducing revenge action ‘Agent Kim Reactivated’, every work has received intense love from viewers for its progression of punishing great evils.
Amidst this, expectations are rising daily as the SBS Cider Universe challenges the ‘medical noir’ genre for the first time through ‘Doctor X’. In particular, curiosity and interest toward ‘Doctor X’ are soaring, given that SBS has previously demonstrated its strength in the medical genre. Previously, SBS's representative medical drama ‘Dr. Romantic’ established itself as a true representative IP, receiving hot love every season by posing heavy questions about "what makes a good doctor" and the convictions and sense of duty of doctors who prioritize patients' lives.
While ‘Dr. Romantic’ captured viewers with the values of humanism, growth, and ‘romance’, ‘Doctor X’ will add intense genre-specific fun through ‘noir’, delving into the complex interests and corruption of Guseo University Hospital with a sharper perspective. Set within Guseo University Hospital, where those in white coats have become a ‘White Mafia’ chasing power and profit, tension increases as it previews the activities of the ‘medical dark hero’ Gye Su-jeong (played by Kim Ji-won), who stands against massive medical power with only her outstanding surgical skills. It is expected to provide a differentiated fun unique to ‘medical noir’ through a dense blend of extreme surgical sequences where life and death intersect, tense power struggles, and the sincerity of doctors trying to save lives.
Furthermore, director Lee Jeong-rim, who proved her sensible directing skills with 'VIP', 'Revenant', and 'As You Stood By', will direct the work, guaranteeing its quality and completeness. Additionally, hit queen Kim Ji-won will undergo a radical transformation as the ‘Mad Count of the Operating Room’ Gye Su-jeong, joined by a powerful cast that provides trust just by their names, including Lee Jung-eun (as Jang Hui-suk), Son Hyun-joo (as Bu Seung-gwon), and Kim Woo-seok (as Park Tae-gyeong), promising explosive performances.
As such, ‘Doctor X’ is expected to capture viewers by exerting the best genre synergy, adding the inherent tension and immersion of medical dramas to the unique refreshingness of the SBS Cider Universe.
The ambitious new SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Doctor X: Era of the White Mafia’, presented by the master of the Cider genre SBS, will premiere on October 9 (Friday) at 9:50 PM.
