Jeong Cheol-won's legal team cites disagreement over division of future income and contract bonuses

The divorce conflict between professional baseball player Jeong Cheol-won and Kim Ji-yeon has escalated from custody issues to a dispute over whether future income is subject to asset division. On the 6th, Jeong Cheol-won's legal representative, Daeryun Law Firm, released an official statement noting that there is currently a difference of opinion between the parties regarding the subject and scope of asset division. The core issue involves future contract bonuses, salaries, and incentives that have not yet occurred or been finalized.

Jeong Cheol-won's side explained that a detailed legal review is required, stating that even for funds to be paid in the future, the legal evaluation may differ if they constitute deferred payments of rights already established or if they are recognized as having a substantial connection to assets formed during the marriage. Their position is that not all future income will be subject to asset division, nor will it all be excluded.

Regarding child custody, Jeong Cheol-won's side stated that they have decided to grant primary custody to Kim Ji-yeon and will pay child support. They also expressed hope that related disputes do not repeatedly spread online for the sake of the minor child's privacy and emotional stability.

Kim Ji-yeon's side previously claimed that she suffered from domestic violence during the marriage and reported circumstances suggesting suspected infidelity. Jeong Cheol-won's side countered this, stating they are disputing the facts and interpretation of those allegations and argued that unverified content should not be concluded as fact.

The two had a son in August 2025 and held their wedding in December of the same year, but news of their marital crisis emerged approximately one month later.
