Anthony Hopkins Releases First Classical Album 'Life Is A Dream'

Actor Anthony Hopkins, called a living legend of Hollywood, has transformed into a composer and released his first classical album, 'Life Is A Dream'. According to media reports, Hopkins, who is 89 years old, introduced this album at the end of last August through the world-renowned British record label Decca Classics. The album contains 12 orchestral pieces that he has personally composed over more than 60 years, works that were completed by drawing inspiration from his family and the landscapes of his hometown, Wales in the United Kingdom.

This album's quality was enhanced by the direction of world-renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the performance of the Philharmonia Orchestra. Gustavo Dudamel evaluated Anthony Hopkins as a rare artist across various media, stating that his imagination, humanity, and emotional truth are fully melted into the music. Hopkins revealed that he has maintained his first aspiration for music since he began learning the piano at age 4 and creating theatrical music from his teenage years.

In a written interview conducted to celebrate the album release, Hopkins described this album as a love letter dedicated to life. He explained that he views life as one long process of parting, saying that life is living while constantly saying goodbye to something from birth until death. He also shared his feelings, stating that listening to his music being realized through the conducting of Gustavo Dudamel and the performance of the Philharmonia Orchestra was a dream-like experience beyond imagination.

Defining acting, composing, and painting as different forms of his creative expression, Hopkins emphasized that all artistic activities share the commonality of expressing emotions and conveying stories. He added that he draws inspiration from Edward Elgar when composing and from Pablo Picasso when painting. Hopkins, who does not stop taking on new challenges even at an age approaching ninety, expressed his ambition to try composing film music in the future, signaling his intention to continue his journey as an artist.
