Korean Melodies Echo Through New York City Hall… Korean Youth Choir Performs at Chuseok Commemoration Event

It was reported through media outlets that the Korean Youth Ensemble of New York (KAYCNY) was invited to perform at a Chuseok commemoration event hosted by the New York City Council, held on September 21 at New York City Hall in Manhattan, United States. This event was the first official event organized by the New York City Council to celebrate Chuseok, presided over by New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin and hosted by New York City Council Member Linda Lee. Approximately 200 people, including Korean compatriots and local community officials, attended the scene to reflect on the meaning of Chuseok, a traditional Korean holiday.

The choir, led by Director Ko Eun-ja, passionately sang songs containing Korean sentiments, including "The Ant Boatman" and "The Flower That Loves the Moon," as well as "Dancing Queen" by the world-renowned pop group ABBA. In particular, immediately after the performance of the final song, "Dancing Queen," cheers and standing ovations from the audience followed, receiving an enthusiastic response.

Director Ko Eun-ja shared her thoughts through media reports, stating, "It was a great honor to be invited to perform at the first Chuseok event of the New York City Council held at the meaningful venue of New York City Hall," and "In particular, the cheers and standing ovations sent by the audience after finishing the last song became an unforgettable, special moment for the members." She continued to reveal future plans, saying, "We will continue to play a role in promoting Korean culture and music to various communities in New York while helping the musical growth of youth."

Founded in 2016, KAYCNY is a choir composed primarily of Korean youth. While continuing regular choral education, they serve as a bridge to promote Korean culture by participating in various cultural events and community activities.
