This event is characterized by connecting Yeoju's national heritage, ‘Yeoju Hyanggyo’, Yeoju's representative historical figure, ‘King Sejong’, and ‘Hangeul’, which contains the spirit of King Sejong, into a single cultural arts content to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day.

On the day of the event, the exhibition and award ceremony for the ‘Hangeul Character Art Contest on Scholars' Virtues’ will be held, along with traditional culture and arts experiences and the Moonlight Music Concert, which unfolds the story of King Sejong through our music and dance.

In particular, various programs themed around Hangeul, King Sejong, and scholar culture will be presented at Yeoju Hyanggyo, which was once a space for learning and cultivation for scholars in the past, so that citizens can more closely experience the value of national heritage.

◇ ‘Hangeul Character Art Contest on Scholars' Virtues’ applications from September 14

The ‘Hangeul Character Art Contest on Scholars' Virtues’ is a cultural arts contest that reinterprets the virtues and values of life that ancient scholars considered important from a modern perspective and expresses them using the formative characteristics of Hangeul and traditional character art.

Work submissions will be conducted via mail or on-site from September 14 to September 23. On-site submission is available on September 22 and 23 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The submitted works will be judged to select winners, and 20 winning works, including the Yeoju Mayor Award, will be exhibited at Yeoju Hyanggyo on October 9, with the award ceremony scheduled for 6:30 PM on the same day.

This contest was prepared to provide participants with an opportunity to newly reflect on the meaning of scholar culture and the beauty of Hangeul through the process of expressing scholars' virtues as Hangeul character art.

◇ Meeting King Sejong through our sound... Creative pansori ‘世宗李祹歌’

The event on October 9 will begin with a traditional culture and arts experience program held from 5:00 PM to 6:40 PM. Visitors can directly experience scholar culture through activities such as ‘Making Four Gracious Plants Pouch’ and ‘Wearing Scholar Clothing’.

Following this, the ‘2026 Yeoju Hyanggyo Moonlight Music Concert’ held from 7:00 PM will present the creative pansori concert ‘世宗李祹歌’, which contains the story of King Sejong, Yeoju's representative historical figure.

‘世宗李祹歌’ is a performance that reinterprets the life and spirit of King Sejong (Yi Do) through pansori and traditional arts, consisting of a stage where song (ga), dance (mu), and music (ak) harmonize, centered on pansori composition.

Against the tranquil backdrop of Yeoju Hyanggyo, the story of King Sejong will be delivered through our sound and dance.

The performance will feature the traditional chamber music group 與民, singers Jeong Cho-rong and Park Seong-woo, geomungo player Park Cheon-gyeong, and dancer Kim Cheong-woo.

Yeoju City stated that it prepared this event so that the meaning of King Sejong, Yeoju's representative historical figure, and Hangeul can be reflected upon together at Yeoju Hyanggyo on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day, and expressed hope that through the Hangeul Character Art Contest on Scholars' Virtues and the creative pansori ‘世宗李祹歌’, citizens can experience Yeoju Hyanggyo more closely and discover the value of our national heritage anew.

Meanwhile, 與民, which operates this event, is planning and operating various national heritage utilization contents such as education, experience, and performances in the second half of the year so that citizens can easily and closely experience the historical value and meaning of national heritage at Yeoju Hyanggyo.
