Fandom business company bemyfriends is expanding its platform business to help form domestic fandoms for overseas content intellectual property (IP). During the recent Asia Content & Film Market (ACFM) held during the Busan International Film Festival, the company unveiled 'b.stage', the official fan community for the musical comedy film 'Rags to Richmond'.
The film is an example of a project that started as a short-form series and expanded into a feature film; bemyfriends plans to provide an environment where audiences can continue to encounter the work and the actors even after this film festival. Japanese groups cosmosy and ENJIN are also communicating with domestic fans through b.stage. This is interpreted as an attempt to transplant fandom management know-how, which is centered on K-pop, into various genres such as film and performances.
Seo Woo-seok, CEO of bemyfriends, stated, "We will create a fandom business environment optimized for each IP so that overseas content does not merely have a one-time encounter with Korean audiences but can maintain a continuous relationship." As demand from overseas IP holders to directly manage fan data through platforms increases, the use of fandom platforms is expected to increase further when global content enters the Korean market in the future.
