GS E&C holds in-house AI competition ‘AX Recipe’… discovering construction-specialized solutions

GS E&C conducted an in-house competition, ‘AX Recipe’, to strengthen the artificial intelligence utilization capabilities of its executives and employees and to discover technologies applicable to practical work. In this competition, which lasted for two months starting last June, approximately 90 teams and 700 employees participated, presenting various AI solutions to solve chronic problems in construction sites.

Among the 12 projects that reached the finals, the best work selected was a solution for improving the efficiency of reviewing plant steel structure detailed drawings. By moving away from the existing method where humans directly compared thousands of members and introducing AI, the review time was reduced by more than 80% and accuracy was improved. In addition, many practical technologies covering all fields of architecture, infrastructure, and plants were proposed, such as improving construction methods in connection with defect prevention platforms, tracking contract changes, and comparing 3D design models with specifications.

Beyond simple AI education, the speed of digital transformation in the construction industry is expected to accelerate further, as employees directly developed solutions to solve real-world business problems. GS E&C plans to apply the excellent projects discovered this time to actual sites and review the possibility of company-wide expansion in the future.

A GS E&C official stated, “We have confirmed the possibility that employees can go beyond the stage of learning AI and directly apply it to their work to create substantial results,” and added, “We will continuously expand data and AI utilization models specialized for the construction industry.”
