Kim Hee-young wins another lawsuit against YouTuber for spreading false information... 10 million won in damages awarded

Kim Hee-young, a director of the T&C Foundation, has won another damages lawsuit filed against a YouTuber who spread false information.

On the 8th, Park Dae-jun, a judge of the Seoul Western District Court Civil Division 9, ruled partially in favor of the plaintiff in the damages claim filed by Kim against YouTuber A.

The court determined that A must pay 10 million won to Kim.

Kim claimed approximately 30 million won. In June 2024, A uploaded a video to a YouTube channel covering Kim's educational background, donation activities, and family relationships. The video also contained claims suggesting forgery of educational background and manipulation of good deeds.

The court viewed that A failed to provide materials to support the claims made and did not undergo separate verification procedures. A's claim that they were introducing matters of public interest was not accepted.

A also received criminal punishment in connection with the same video. Last May, the court issued a summary order of a 5 million won fine, which has been finalized.

This is not the first time Kim has received a compensation ruling due to the dissemination of false information. In April, the Seoul Western District Court also ruled that another YouTuber must pay 20 million won in damages.
