MBC investigates dangerous iron stakes and AI glasses cheating controversy
The MBC program True Story Expedition will investigate a series of mysterious accidents caused by iron stakes driven into a road and the rising controversy surrounding cheating via AI glasses.
MBC's True Story Expedition will air two investigations this Thursday at 9 PM, covering a village where a restaurant owner named Choi installed iron stakes on an access road and the emergence of "dark helpers" using AI glasses to assist with exam cheating.
MBC's True Story Expedition will air "Road Cruelty... The Secret of the Iron Stakes" this Thursday at 9 PM.
The first story, "Road Cruelty... The Secret of the Iron Stakes," investigates a quiet village where mysterious accidents have been repeatedly occurring. Victims have consistently reported that they could not identify the cause of the accidents immediately after they happened. When the True Story Expedition production team visited the site to uncover the truth, they found that various accidents were indeed occurring, and the crew members were no exception. The program explores what exactly is happening in this village.
A vehicle owner reported a bizarre accident while driving with family to a dumpling hot pot restaurant on a holiday. As they entered the restaurant's access road, a sudden loud noise occurred and the vehicle came to a halt. The cause was an iron stake driven into the middle of the road. The stake pierced the undercarriage of the vehicle, a situation that could have led to even greater damage, such as battery damage, explosions, or fire. While the owner was managing the aftermath, a man approached them, introduced himself as the owner of the iron stake, and made an unexpected demand. The program asks who drove an iron stake into the middle of the road and for what reason.
The person who installed the iron stakes is a person referred to by the pseudonym Choi, who operates a restaurant located opposite the access road to the dumpling hot pot restaurant. The conflict between the two restaurants reportedly began on the very first day the dumpling hot pot restaurant opened three years ago. As the conflict deepened, communication between the two sides was severed, and Choi installed the iron stakes on the dumpling hot pot restaurant's access road. Dangerous vehicle accidents continue to recur due to the stakes in the middle of the road. The program seeks to find if there is any way to resolve this perilous issue.
The second story, "AI Glasses, the World Inside," examines AI glasses that analyze the world in real time and provide immediate information on curiosities. With a single touch, users can obtain various information without needing to take out a mobile phone, ushering in an era of communicating with the world through a pair of glasses. The program explores what kind of world is unfolding inside these small glasses.
University student Jeong Jin-seo utilizes AI glasses effectively in daily life, using them to translate original texts, display presentation scripts, and even creating an assistive app for persons with a visual impairment. However, while AI glasses make daily life more convenient for some, they have recently become embroiled in controversy. Instances of cheating using AI glasses have been repeatedly detected during various university entrance essay exams and national qualification exams. To verify if these small glasses can indeed solve exam questions, the production team conducted a mock experiment with six high school students. While four of the six students recorded high scores on an actual math exam, the remaining two students actually scored lower. The program investigates why the results varied despite using the same AI glasses.
A tip received by the True Story Expedition production team suggests there are even "dark hands" helping with cheating. It appears that companies exist to assist in cheating using AI glasses, moving beyond the misuse of convenient technology to the emergence of so-called "dark helpers." With the 2027 academic year College Scholastic Ability Test approaching, universities and exam officials are in a state of emergency. The program also meets an individual who has developed a related app specifically to prevent cheating via AI glasses. Standing on the precarious boundary between convenience and danger, the program explores how far the world hidden within AI glasses is expanding. True Story Expedition will examine the secret of the iron stakes in a rural village and the light and shadow shown by AI glasses during its broadcast at 9 PM on Thursday.
