Last year, SBS made its largest overseas investment in its history by investing approximately 20 million dollars in MD Entertainment. With this MOU, SBS plans to strengthen cooperation in content and platforms with MD Entertainment and jointly discover new business opportunities in the Southeast Asia and global markets using Indonesia as a base.
First, the two companies agreed to promptly promote the programming of popular SBS content on MDTV and local Indonesian remakes based on SBS content IP. Furthermore, they announced that they will expand the scope of cooperation to include advertising, brand marketing, performances, and content-linked secondary businesses in the future.
Hong Seong-chang, CEO of Studio S, who attended the signing ceremony on this day on behalf of SBS President Bang Moon-shin, said, "Last year's strategic investment in MD Entertainment was made after highly evaluating the growth potential of the Southeast Asia content market, MD's business capabilities, and the synergy that the two companies can create." He added, "This MOU is an important starting point to connect last year's strategic investment to practical business results and to create long-term growth for both companies together."
MD Entertainment CEO Manoj Punjabi emphasized, "SBS possesses world-class content capabilities, and MD Entertainment has strengths across the entire Indonesian market. Through SBS's investment in MD last year, both companies built trust in each other's strengths and synergy, and this MOU is the starting point to turn this trust into concrete results." He also stated, "The signing of this MOU is the beginning of a strategic partnership for both companies to move forward together beyond Southeast Asia to the global stage."
Based on a population of approximately 280 million, Indonesia is seeing a continuous increase in demand for local content, and its digital media market, including OTT, is growing rapidly, making it a focal point for the strategic entry of global content companies.
MD Entertainment is a leading comprehensive content company in Indonesia established in 2002, expanding its business areas into all media sectors, including the production of film and TV content and broadcasting platforms. It has produced 'KKN di Desa Penari' (2022, cumulative audience of 10.06 million), one of the highest-grossing films in Indonesian history, and the 'Danur' series, and in 2024, it expanded its business area into terrestrial broadcasting by acquiring the terrestrial channel 'NET TV' and rebranding it as 'MDTV' in February 2025.
