'Train to Busan' 10th Anniversary Special Screening... 4K Remastered Version Released

A special screening for the 10th anniversary of the movie 'Train to Busan' will be held at Cinematheque KOFA on October 3 at 4:30 PM. The Korean Film Archive announced on the 30th that it will present a 4K remastered version during this screening.

'Train to Busan', directed by Yeon Sang-ho, was released in 2016. It depicts the story of passengers on a KTX heading from Seoul to Busan struggling to survive amidst an outbreak of an unknown infection. The cast includes Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an, Kim Eui-sung, Choi Woo-shik, and Ahn So-hee.

The work was invited to the Midnight Screening section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. Following its domestic release, it became the first Korean zombie-themed film to surpass 10 million viewers. It captures the situation where the infection spreads within the limited space of a train and the choices made by various characters facing it.

Marking its 10th anniversary since release, 'Train to Busan' is being re-released in overseas theaters one by one, starting with the Philippines and moving to North America, Japan, and Italy. The Korean Film Archive prepared this special screening so that domestic audiences can also see the work in theaters again. Not only those who watched the film at the time of its release, but also audiences encountering it for the first time can enjoy it on a large screen.

After the screening, a Guest Visit (GV) featuring director Yeon Sang-ho and film critic Kim Bong-seok will take place. The two are scheduled to share stories on the themes of the film's production behind-the-scenes and the significance the work holds in the history of Korean genre films.
