KBS 1TV 'A Walk Around the Neighborhood' will broadcast the episode 'Peace, Walking the Path – Cheol-won County, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province' on Saturday, September 5th at 7:10 PM. Host Lee Man-gi visits Cheol-won, located at the waist of the Korean Peninsula and adjacent to the Armistice Line, to highlight sites that have been reborn as lands of life beyond the pains of history.
In this broadcast, a unique dessert using Cheol-won's specialty, Odae rice, will be introduced. In Galmal-eup, a shop run by son-in-law Lim Hyeong-min and mother-in-law Eom Suk-ja features 'Odae Rice Bingsu' served with Odae rice cream, mugwort rice cake, and brown rice. Additionally, in Dongsong-eup, the story of a farmer couple who prepares neat meals using the Odae rice they farmed themselves will be captured.
The Nature and Historical Sites of Cheol-won
Goseokjeong, which represents the geological value of Cheol-won, is designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark, where one can admire the Goseok rock, approximately 15m high, and the superb scenery of the Hantan River. The following Jiktang Falls features a unique terrain reaching about 80m in width and is called the 'Niagara of Korea.' Furthermore, the workshop of artisan Baek Seong-gi and his son, who have been carrying on the tradition of the basalt millstone 'Goseokmae' for about 50 years, will be visited.
The Path of Peace Rising Above the Scars of War
Daemari Village, which was a fierce battlefield during the Korean War, has transformed into a fertile field today. In the broadcast, the pride of the elderly who reclaimed land from minefields to build their lives will be heard. Also, there will be a time to reflect on the reality of division and the meaning of peace by walking the 'DMZ Peace Trail' White Horse Hill course, which opened in 2019.
