Following BTS member Jimin's hug for a young fan suffering from childhood cancer during a US performance, a wave of donations from fans is continuing.
On the 15th local time, during a BTS performance held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Jimin approached 10-year-old Olivia in the audience. Olivia is a child fighting childhood cancer and was invited to the performance with her family through the cooperation of Heroes for Children, a non-profit organization supporting children with cancer, and UnitedHealthcare. On this day, five children with childhood cancer, including Olivia, were present with their families at the performance.
During the performance, Jimin hugged Olivia, kissed her on the cheek, and gifted her a keyring. Olivia rejoiced, shouting, "I got a kiss!" This scene was released through Heroes for Children's social media and other channels, recording more than 5 million views within 24 hours.
Subsequently, the interest of the BTS fandom, ARMY, led to donations. Heroes for Children was conducting a fundraising campaign with a goal of $50,000 to support children with childhood cancer and their families, and the amount raised exceeded the goal within just two days of starting. As of the 20th, it has exceeded $84,000. This is approximately 116 million won based on the exchange rate at the time.
Heroes for Children stated, "Even though we did not request separate donations from the fans, voluntary participation has continued." The organization announced plans to increase the target amount to $100,000 to support more children with childhood cancer and their families.
