EIDF2026 to Broadcast 5 Documentaries Including 'Beyond the Menu' on Thursday the 27th

The 23rd EBS International Documentary Festival (EIDF2026), hosted by EBS, will broadcast five documentaries in succession from 1:05 PM on Thursday the 27th to 12:55 AM on Friday the 28th.

Afternoon Broadcasts

At 1:05 PM, director Julie Ng's 'Beyond the Menu' (75 min, Netherlands, 2025) will be broadcast. This work, the first feature film by director Julie Ng, who is the daughter of a Chinese-Indonesian restaurant owner, is a personal documentary that seeks the origins of 'Babi Panggang,' a dish consisting of fried pork topped with acar and drizzled with Sweet & Sour sauce. The journey leads to a story about the director's own previously unknown Chinese roots, reflecting on the meaning of living as a Chinese-Dutch person.

Following this, at 2:35 PM, director Anette Østre broadcasts 'Golden Swan' (88 min, Norway·Sweden·Denmark·Netherlands, 2026). It tells the story of Hans Christian Østre, who was kidnapped and killed by terrorists in Kashmir in 1995, through the records of his final few months held as a hostage, provided by his sister, director Anette Østre. The film portrays the brutal hostage situation as a process of facing terror, and further, as a personal story of choosing forgiveness instead of hatred.

Nighttime Broadcasts

At 9:55 PM, 'South Meets North' (96 min, Norway·Latvia·Korea, 2025) by directors Morten Traavik and Kim Sun will be broadcast. The work follows Han Yujin, the founder of 'Love Story,' a marriage information company that connects North Korean defector women with South Korean men across the divided Korean Peninsula. While the marriage of CEO Han Yujin herself, a real North-South couple, appears to be a successful model for the company, the film captures the personal life wavering behind the scenes.

At 11:40 PM, director Steven Abcon's 'Another Way' (67 min, USA·Switzerland, 2025) will be broadcast. The work deals with 'Combatants for Peace,' a group composed of former hostile combatants from Israel and Palestine who refuse to succumb to violence, depicting their Challenge to show that another way exists amidst the intensifying destruction and violence of the Gaza Strip war following the October 7 attack.

At 12:55 AM on Friday the 28th, director Weixin Yan's 'Cindy Tran: Poetry of Wandering' (16 min, USA, 2025) will be broadcast. From estrangement within a family to lesser-known restaurants in New York, this work captures the hidden sincerity and beauty of being human through the poetry of Cindy Tran.
