Jazz vocalist Jung Young-ae will simultaneously release her new album "The Moon and the Sixth Sense" in approximately 150 countries through major domestic and international music platforms at 12:00 PM on September 30.

Having started the album planning last August, Jung Young-ae selected songs she had composed sporadically over several years and realized them with her own unique sound through a meticulous arranging process, such as modifying chords and refining lyrics. After a journey through music for the past year or so, she is finally presenting what she has held onto as the result of her fifth album to the world.

The album title "The Moon and the Sixth Sense" was inspired by W. Somerset Maugham's novel "The Moon and Sixpence." While "The Moon" symbolizes the artistic ideal that is not easily reached but is ultimately gazed upon, "The Sixth Sense" signifies Jung Young-ae's own instinctive sense that she has felt and chosen within her music. It also means that she has captured the experience and intuition accumulated over many years of walking the musical path in this fifth album.

Among the 12 tracks included in this album, 11 are Jung Young-ae's original compositions, and the remaining one is "Blue Arirang," which reinterprets the folk song "Arirang" by changing the entire melody. As with her previous works, Jung Young-ae took charge of not only the songwriting, composing, and arranging but also the overall production of the album, further solidifying her musical world as a songwriter, arranger, and producer beyond being just a vocalist.

The album is centered around an authentic jazz trio consisting of piano (Lee Seon-ji), double bass (Jo Yong-won), and drums (Kwak Ji-ung). To this, guitar (Kim Gi-jung), haegeum (Kim Seo-ha), piri and taepyeongso (Ahn Eun-gyeong), as well as an SATB vocal choir, were added to complete different colors for each song. Traditional Korean instruments were used as solo instruments to add unique tones and emotions to some tracks.

While her 4th album "Arirang Cantata" put Korean subject matter and traditional Korean musical colors at the forefront, this album is a work that focuses on authentic jazz while harmoniously adding the tones of traditional Korean instruments at necessary moments.

The first track of the album, "Arang! Arang! Arang!", is the first vocal choir song attempted by Jung Young-ae. The lead vocal begins singing unaccompanied and repeats an 8-bar main theme until the end of the song. As alto, soprano, tenor, and bass are added sequentially over this theme, a full SATB harmony is completed. This vocal choir project was achieved through a collaboration between Jung Young-ae and the Sejong University students she directly instructed.

Another characteristic of this album is that the lyrics of several songs meticulously contain pictorial romance and lyricism. In particular, "When the Buckwheat Blooms" feels like watching a short film due to lyrics that seem to paint scenes before one's eyes. "Rabbit and Desert Fox" contains a message that humans can also create results that exceed expectations if they do not give up until the end, through the survival-driven sprint of two animals.

Jung Young-ae majored in Jazz Voice at Berklee College of Music in the United States, completed her Bachelor of Music (B.M.) and Master of Music (M.M.) in Practical Music at Dongduk Women's University, and completed the doctoral course (ABD) in Performing Arts Management at the Dongduk Women's University Graduate School. She studied under the late Park Sung-yeon, called the godmother of Korean jazz, and the legend of American jazz vocals, the late Sheila Jordan. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Sejong University, teaching K-POP Music and Vocal Training.

Starting with her 1st album "The Man I Love" in 2013, she released her 2nd album "Because I Love You" in 2016, 3rd album "Songs for My Father" in 2019, and 4th album "Arirang Cantata" in 2022. In particular, the 4th album "Arirang Cantata" is a "jazzy Gugak" album, and its tracks are steadily introduced on KBS Classic FM and Gugak FM.

This 5th album is a work that expresses the experience and musical intuition Jung Young-ae has accumulated through long musical activities even more deeply and sophisticatedly within the language of authentic jazz.
