- From the voice of Lee Geuk-ro, who left a record of our language about 100 years ago, to the appearance of Hangul in the world in 2026, the 100-year journey of Hangul is captured in a single song.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day, MBC will broadcast the special documentary . This documentary captures the process of the MBC Announcer Bureau and the band Broccoli, You Too?, who have long sung beautiful Korean lyrics, retracing the past 100 years of our language and script together and completing a new song to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hangul Day at the end of that journey.

This documentary begins with the stories of people who strove to protect our language and script during the Japanese colonial period. Through the voice recordings of linguist Lee Geuk-ro, which are known to have been recorded at Sorbonne University in France in 1928, viewers can hear the actual voice of our language from about 100 years ago, and retrace the reasons why Lee Geuk-ro sought to leave a record of our language after witnessing the reality of countries losing their languages due to colonial rule. Furthermore, it examines the compilation process of the 'Great Dictionary of the Korean Language' pursued by the Korean Language Society to organize and record our language, the efforts continued to complete the dictionary despite suppression during the Japanese colonial period, and the dramatic moment when the dictionary manuscript was discovered immediately after liberation.

After liberation, it examines the history of changes in broadcasting language, which played a major role in establishing the standard language. Former announcer Son Seokhee, who asks about the era through our language, joins to discuss the changes in our language. The documentary traces the process from broadcasts that transmitted our language at the moment of liberation to the spread of radio and TV, and how broadcasting language changed over time, including the transition from broadcasting centered on Sino-Korean words and written style to a more familiar spoken style.

Additionally, it visits Japan to confirm the status of our language and Hangul after passing through 100 years of time. From the Hallyu street in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo, Japan, to Japan's only Korean specialty bookstore, it looks into the present of our language and Hangul living and breathing in the world by meeting students at Waseda University who have fallen in love with studying Hangul through K-pop cover dance, and students at the King Sejong Institute who have been studying Korean for a long time.

The 100-year journey of Hangul is completed as a song celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day, based on the stories and emotions discovered in the history of our language and script by Broccoli, You Too?, who have sung with beautiful Korean words.

The MBC Hangul Day special documentary , which records the 100 years of time—from the voices of those who protected our language during the Japanese colonial period to the changes in our language through broadcasting and the Hangul loved across borders—will be aired on the morning of October 9 at 8:50 AM on Hangul Day.
