History on Foot, Special for the 150th Anniversary of Baekbeom Kim Gu's Birth... Broadcasting on the 26th at 9 PM

is a historical storytelling program that directly follows the footsteps of historical figures by traveling to their locations. This episode highlights Baekbeom Kim Gu, who dedicated his life to the independence of his motherland. UNESCO has officially designated this year to "commemorate the 150th anniversary of Kim Gu's birth," demonstrating that the values of culture and peace emphasized by Kim Gu align with the goals of UNESCO. The production team visited sites where traces of Kim Gu remain, from Hyochang Park in Seoul to Shanghai and Jiaxing in China, to retrace the life of independence activist Kim Gu and the struggle of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.

Additionally, history storyteller Choi Tae Sung and Kim Jae-won, a professor of Korean History at The Catholic University of Korea, join to provide explanations.

The Connections of Youthful Kim Gu and 27 Years of Exile

After facing frustration in the civil service examination at the age of 17, Kim Gu encountered Donghak and entered a new path, during which he formed a connection in 1909 with Ahn Jung-geun, who executed Itō Hirobumi in Harbin. Heading to Shanghai in 1919, Kim Gu began a 27-year period of exile leading the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea alongside figures such as Ahn Chang-ho. In 1931, he organized the Korean Patriotic Organization, leading the heroic actions of Lee Bong-chang and Yun Bong-gil. Following the Yun Bong-gil incident, a bounty worth approximately 35 billion won in today's value was placed on Kim Gu, and he continued a life of fleeing through various parts of China to evade pursuit by the Japanese Imperial Army. The production team met descendants of a family in China who had risked their lives to hide Kim Gu at that time to hear their stories.

The Hero's Return and the Final Moments at Gyeonggyojang House

Returning to his homeland in 1945 after 27 years, Kim Gu set out to bring the remains of his comrades buried in foreign lands back to his country. The remains of the three heroes—Yun Bong-gil, Lee Bong-chang, and Baek Jeong-gi—found by the remains excavation team organized by the activist Park Yeol, were interred in Hyochang Park. On Sunday, June 26, 1949, while staying at Gyeonggyojang House in Seoul, Baekbeom Kim Gu collapsed following four gunshots, and the production team retraces the events that occurred at Gyeonggyojang House that day on-site.
