Choi Jun's 9th Album 'Han River Pungnyu – Singing the Beauty of the Han River' to Release 'DAY' on September 29 and 'NIGHT' on October 13

Choi Jun, the creator of Piano Byeongchang, is releasing a new album, ‘Han River Pungnyu – Singing the Beauty of the Han River’.

In 2010, Choi Jun became the first in the world to create the genre known as ‘Piano Byeongchang,’ in which he performs the piano while singing excerpts of traditional Korean vocal music (pansori, danga, folk songs, jeongga). He is active as a composer, pianist, and singer, having held a total of 23 solo concerts.

The 9th studio album ‘Han River Pungnyu’ being released this time is a musical journey series with Choi Jun, consisting of a total of 15 songs across two albums: ‘Han River Pungnyu: DAY’ and ‘Han River Pungnyu: NIGHT’.

All songs were composed and arranged by Choi Jun; they are re-recordings of songs performed at ‘Dreamlight Theater’ on Saturday, May 2, and bassist Lee Sang-jin served as the executive producer.

Regarding Choi Jun's upcoming activities, he will perform ‘Pansori Loves Jazz’ with a jazz band at Seoul Donhwamun Traditional Theater on Thursday, October 1, in a joint project. Additionally, he will present ‘Piano Byeongchang Choi Jun – 2026 Sugungga’—which features various musical arrangements of specific scenes from the pansori ‘Sugungga’—alongside singers from ‘Pansori Factory Badaksori’ at Seoul Namsan Traditional Theater on Tuesday, November 3.

· ‘Han River Pungnyu: DAY’

This album includes the epic ‘Han River Rhapsody’ which sings of the ‘Han River’ containing much historical pain and joy; ‘Sunshower’ and ‘Turquoise Blue’; ‘Bamseom’, which expresses the historical facts of Bamseom Island; ‘Clock Chorus’ and ‘Jamsil Baseball Stadium’, which express what kind of songs clocks might sing; ‘Goblin Taryeong’, inspired by the movie ‘The Host’; and a Piano Byeongchang rendition of ‘Toeryeong Sori’ from the pansori ‘Song of Chunhyang’.

· ‘Han River Pungnyu: NIGHT’

This album includes ‘Car Fantasy’, which sings of cars running along the banks of the Han River; ‘Nodeulseom Blooming’ and ‘Jamsil Baseball Stadium’, which sing of spring on Nodeulseom Island using an accordion; Choi Jun's meditative music ‘Round and Round’ and ‘Watching the Fire’; ‘Ten Thousand Years of Prosperity’, which is an EDM track using a launchpad to pray for a peaceful reign; and Piano Byeongchang renditions of the new folk song ‘Han River Taryeong’ and ‘Song of Peace’.

A total of 8 performers participated in this album: △Bass Lee Sang-jin △Keyboard Oh Hwan-hee △Flute Cho Hyo-seong △Viola Jeong Min-gyeong △piri/taepyeongso Park Ji-hye △Percussion Park Gwang-hyeon △Sori-buk July Jung △and Choi Jun (Composition, Arrangement, Piano, Launchpad, Accordion, Vocals). Recording, mixing, and mastering were handled by Lee Jeong-myeon of Ieum Sound, and the production was supported by the Korea Council for Arts and Culture for the Disabled.

Choi Jun's new album ‘Han River Pungnyu: DAY’ will be released at noon on September 29, and ‘Han River Pungnyu: NIGHT’ will be released at noon on October 13. They will be available on various domestic and international music sites such as Melon, genie, Bugs, Spotify, and YouTube Music, and the release can also be confirmed through the YouTube and SNS channels of Gukseoldang, which is in charge of the distribution of Choi Jun's albums.
