Drum Busking to be Held at Former Cheongpyeong Station Site in Gapyeong on October 1, Free Admission

An outdoor drum busking performance by a community music club will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, at the site of the former Cheongpyeong Station in Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, where the 1st MBC Riverside Song Festival was held in 1979.

The Drum Sarang Club (President Kim Tae-su) announced that it will hold its autumn regular busking, ‘Drum Busking - Four Beats Under the Clock Tower’, at the Cheongpyeong Station 1979 clock tower plaza on this day. This park, established on the site of the former Cheongpyeong Station which became a closed station due to the opening of the Gyeongchun Line double-track electric railway, holds symbolic significance as the starting point of the Riverside Song Festival and is currently being operated by a local cooperative as a retro cultural space.

This performance will proceed in a busking format centered on acoustic drum sets, with individual performances. Various masterpieces from the 1970s and 80s, including pop, rock, and trot, will be presented through drum arrangements, and popular K-pop songs will also take the stage.

Anyone can watch freely without a separate admission fee, and no prior application is required. However, the event will be tentatively postponed in case of rain.

Regarding the reason for choosing Cheongpyeong Station 1979 as the location, Drum Sarang Club President Kim Tae-su explained, “I heard that this is the place where the Riverside Song Festival was first held. Although trains no longer stop here, the fact that it is the place where music began remains. It was very meaningful to our members to continue the beat at that very spot.”

The Drum Sarang Club was formed in 2026 and currently consists of 17 active members who have gathered primarily around their practice room. The age range is diverse, from 30s to 70s.

President Kim emphasized, “This is not a stage only for those who play well. Even members who have been playing for only six months will stand on stage. It is okay if the sound is a bit unrefined. If you happen to pass by and give us a round of applause, that would be the greatest support for us.”

He expressed his wish, saying, “If this busking concludes successfully, I want to open a stage once every season in Cheongpyeong. I hope it becomes a place where local residents can stop by anytime and listen comfortably.”
