Eric Nam returns with nine-track fourth album after three years

Eric Nam will release Confessions of a Lonely Heart at 1 p.m. on the 16th, marking his first full-length album in three years. Its nine tracks explore love and loneliness, moving from obsession, regret and self-reproach toward acceptance and hope.

Eric Nam will release his fourth full-length album, Confessions of a Lonely Heart, through online music platforms at 1 p.m. on the 16th, returning with nine songs about love and loneliness after a three-year gap between full-length releases.

The album follows his third full-length release, House on a Hill, in 2023. Eric Nam contributed to lyrics and composition throughout the new record and plans to use it to showcase the musical progress he has made through his continuing work as a singer-songwriter.

Beginning in March, he released three tracks ahead of the album: How The Fire Started, Miss Me More and Someday. They now join the rest of the nine-song collection, which brings his songwriting and musical work together as a cohesive full-length record.

Drawing on Eric Nam's feelings about love and loneliness, Confessions of a Lonely Heart traces a path from obsession, regret and self-reproach to acceptance and hope. Its themes include the contradictions and loneliness of modern people who want to be loved yet fear letting someone get close. Emotionally shifting music gives expression to the different feelings explored in each track.

The title track, Psycho, depicts an intense attraction that develops into obsession, with even the loss of control feeling like part of love. The song builds in energy and is described as featuring a chorus that leaves an impression after a single listen.

Eric Nam recently shared candid reflections on social media in connection with his work on the album.

“I sometimes wake in the middle of the night, look into the darkness and listen to my breathing,” he wrote. “The noise in my head and the ringing in my ears do not go away.”

“These days, I cannot listen to music. Every song sounds like a love song written just for someone,” he continued. “I do not know whether this is loneliness or whether I am on the verge of falling apart.”

He also wrote: “Perhaps I need just one moment of warmth, or someone who can make me feel so deeply that my heart aches and bring me to tears.”

The release follows work across television and film as well as music. Eric Nam finished third on The Traitors Season 4, a survival competition on the U.S. platform Peacock, and participated as a voice actor in the animated film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.

With his return to recorded music, attention is also turning to how the album will perform in the United States beyond the Korean market.
