In the 38th episode of TV CHOSUN's 'Gold-Blooming Friday' broadcast on September 11, 'free artist' Cho Youngnam appeared as the Golden Star. Cho Youngnam brought out his own artwork and declared he would gift it to the highest scorer. As a special prize as significant as the Golden Cup was on the line, the competitive spirit of the TOP10 ignited. This broadcast recorded a 3.8% viewership rating based on Nielsen Korea's national standard. It ranked 1st among all daily general programming and cable programs, with a peak instantaneous viewership of 4.2%.
In the first battle, Jin Yang Ji-eun and Nam Seungmin, who received 100 points last week, competed. Yang Ji-eun chose Cho Youngnam's 'I Can't Live Without Love' and calmly delivered the lyrical lyrics. Colleagues offered praise saying it was "beautiful," but the original singer Cho Youngnam caused a stir in the venue with a cold evaluation, saying, "He sang it like trot, but it doesn't suit it well." Nam Seungmin raised the tension with 'The Third Daughter of the Choi Family.' With sly expressions and soulful singing, Cho Youngnam gave high praise, saying, "I think he sings better than the original singer." Amidst the extreme evaluations, the Karaoke Master's choice was Yang Ji-eun. Yang Ji-eun, who received 97 points, surpassed Nam Seungmin by 6 points and ascended to 3-star status.
Mi Cheon Rok-dam perfectly homaged his role model Cho Youngnam with 'Goodbye City.' Cho Youngnam showed special affection by even lending the glasses he was wearing as stage props. After the song began, he even provided support by standing up to add harmonies. Encouraged by the reliable support, Cheon Rok-dam received 98 points. The Seon Son Bin-a, nominated by Cheon Rok-dam, faced off with Cho Youngnam's representative song 'Hwagae Jangteo.' As a true 'Son of Hadong,' Son Bin-a, who said he had enjoyed listening to and singing this song since childhood, added excitement with his rich vocal volume. Watching this, Cho Youngnam acknowledged his solid singing ability, saying, "He sounded like a sophisticated classical singer." Son Bin-a lost with 92 points, sitting alongside Cheon Rok-dam as a 3-star.
Jin Kim Yong-bin performed 'Now,' composed by Cho Youngnam and written by drama writer Kim Soo-hyun. While sharing the story of the song's birth, Cho Youngnam caused a stir in the venue by suddenly confessing his past, saying, "It was when I was living happily. Before I cheated." Kim Yong-bin expressed the lonely emotion of parting with delicate dynamics and an affectionate voice. Cho Youngnam gave high praise, saying, "I thought I should sing with such flavor like Kim Yong-bin." Kim Yong-bin surged to the lead with 99 points.
Chu Hyuk-jin, nominated by Kim Yong-bin, countered with Cho Youngnam's 'Love Is.' Chu Hyuk-jin, who had already received 100 points during rehearsal, showed confidence by expressing his greed for Cho Youngnam's painting. However, in the main stage, he could not replicate the 100 points from the rehearsal and stayed at 95 points. While Chu Hyuk-jin fell back to 1-star, Kim Yong-bin rose to 4-stars.
In the 4th round, 'The Prince of Folk' Kim Se-hwan appeared as the Super Maggie Singer. Tension rose at the appearance of a Legend who has won not only the broadcasting music rookie award but also the Grand Prize and the Singer King title for two consecutive years. Kim Se-hwan nominated Chun-gil and Jin Jung Seo Joo as opponents. First, Chun-gil chose 'Just Once in My Life.' Although Chun-gil, who had previously teased Cho Youngnam and heard him say "You mean person," was on his bad side, the atmosphere changed completely when the song started. As he stably handled the tricky rhythm and added deep emotions, Cho Youngnam was surprised, saying, "He sings so well."
Jung Seo Joo sang 'The Falling Leaves' as her usual favorite song. As it is a song released in 1973, the original singer Cho Youngnam wondered how the young Jung Seo Joo would interpret the emotion of the song. However, she showed skill beyond expectations from the first verse. Jung Seo Joo reinterpreted the old masterpiece in her own style with a clear voice and delicate control of tempo and volume. Kim Se-hwan shook his head, saying, "I picked the wrong opponent," and Cho Youngnam acknowledged her innate talent, saying, "She is naturally good at singing."
The scores for the two were Chun-gil 100 points and Jung Seo Joo 96 points. Chun-gil, who hit 100 points, immediately engaged in a final battle with Super Maggie singer Kim Se-hwan. Kim Se-hwan proved his over 50 years of experience with Cho Youngnam's 'Swallow.' As his smooth voice combined with seasoned expression, admiration from juniors followed. Cho Youngnam also expressed satisfaction for his long-time colleague, saying, "Because he sings this well, it seems our C'est Si Bon has been maintained until now."
Kim Se-hwan's score was 97 points. The winner of the Super Maggie Singer round was Chun-gil. For the owner of 100 points, the 'Wheel of Fate' was waiting immediately. Chun-gil's wheel stopped on 'Bust,' allowing him to keep his golden stars intact and rise to a solo lead with 5 stars.
In the final battle, Mi Oh Yu-jin and Choi Jae-myung faced off. First, Oh Yu-jin sang 'Moran Camellia,' which Cho Youngnam remade hoping it would remain his representative song. At Oh Yu-jin's clean and pure voice, Cho Youngnam closed his eyes tightly and became immersed in the song. Then, Choi Jae-myung completely flipped the atmosphere with Cho Youngnam's 'Waterwheel Life.' Expressing pleasant energy along with free hip dancing, Choi Jae-myung received 99 points. Choi Jae-myung, who defeated Oh Yu-jin (97 points) by a 2-point margin, ascended to 4-stars.
After all battles ended, the protagonist to take Cho Youngnam's painting was also decided as Chun-gil. Chun-gil, the only one to record 100 points that day, not only rose to a solo 1st place with 5 golden stars but also embraced Cho Youngnam's artwork. At the end of the broadcast, Cho Youngnam and the TOP10 members decorated the hot finale by singing Kim Se-hwan's 'Saturday Night' together.
