As actor Jang Dong-yoon (34) announced his marriage, controversy surrounding past fan funding is spreading.

Jang Dong-yoon directed the short film 'Please Be My Ear' in 2023 and the feature film 'The Yeast', which was released this April, with his fiancée Kim Seung-yun starring in both works. Ahead of the release of 'The Yeast', Jang raised a portion of the marketing costs through fan funding, and a total of 26.35 million won was collected in the funding conducted at the end of last year. This amount is known to have been used for promotional expenses such as goods production, GV (Guest Visit) events, and autograph sessions. Participants in the funding were provided with GV invitation tickets and inclusion in the ending credits, while those who participated with 100,000 won or more were given the special benefit of attending an autograph session.

The controversy arose when Jang Dong-yoon conducted a GV along with the lead actress Kim Seung-yun during the promotional schedule for 'The Yeast', which utilized the fan funding. Fans raised questions as to whether the money they collected was also used to promote the fiancée's film, and reactions such as "It looks like they received wedding gift money in advance through funding" and "Did they date using money collected from fans?" appeared online.

Although an explanation was provided that the funding was intended to secure promotional expenses rather than production costs, the controversy is not subsiding. As it has been revealed that fan support also partially supported the process of 'The Yeast' being invited to various film festivals after its theatrical release, critical views continue to follow.

Jang Dong-yoon and Kim Seung-yun are scheduled to hold their wedding this coming October. Jang Dong-yoon announced the marriage news on the 25th, stating, "Having spent a lot of time together, we came to know many different sides of each other, and as much as that, we came to understand and cherish each other more," and added, "I will continue to strive to show good sides as an actor."
