Jang Hang-jun will unveil a screenplay about a husband dreaming of revenge against his wife when SBS’s new variety show Master Hang-jun premieres on Thursday, October 15, at 9 p.m.
Introducing his next project, Jang gives its title, translated as “The Man Who Lives with the Queen,” and calls it “an epic about a husband dreaming of revenge.” He says the script draws on real events from the days when he used the credit card of his wife, writer Kim Eun-hee.
“I don’t use my wife’s card now!” Jang declares, throwing back his shoulders. “I even gave her a large allowance,” he adds, offering a boastful anecdote that draws laughter. Song Eun-i counters, “Kim Eun-hee tells a different story!”
SBS’s preview frames the screenplay as Jang’s playful rebellion against his wife, teasing what his revenge story will reveal. It also presents Jang as a filmmaker who has joined the ranks of the greats after drawing 16 million moviegoers.
Yoo Jae-myung emerges as a strong prospect to play Jang after receiving the script. According to the preview, Yoo delivers a performance resembling a copy of Jang, moving between frivolity and solemnity and adding ad-libbed profanity. SBS describes his acting as unexpectedly moving Jang, who is reportedly so pleased that he singles Yoo out as a leading casting candidate.
Billed by SBS as an anticipated offering for the second half of 2026, Master Hang-jun centers on secret auditions to recruit top actors for Jang’s autobiographical film of the same name. The premise looks back on a life the program describes as sometimes petty and sometimes servile, yet more radiant than anyone else’s, while building its conversations around verbal sparring between Jang and celebrity guests.
The cinematic talk variety show is directed by Lee Dong-won and Kam Yu-min, written by Kim Myung-jung and co-produced by VIVO Content Lab.
