Oriental Medicine Doctor Kim Hyeong-bae's 'Low Fever' Remarks Spark Controversy... Medical Community Warns of "Misinformation"
The Doctors' Association for a Fair Society has criticized Oriental medicine doctor Kim Hyeong-bae for providing potentially dangerous medical advice regarding fever management on social media.
[Special Times] Reporter Choi Seon-eun=Medical organizations have poured out strong criticism regarding the remarks made by Oriental medicine doctor Kim Hyeong-bae, who is known to be the partner of influencer Aori. While answering health-related questions from various followers through his SNS account, Oriental medicine doctor Kim Hyeong-bae presented his opinions on fever management for adults. He stated, "In the case of adults, it is okay to endure a fever up to 39.4 degrees Celsius," adding, "A fever of this level can promote immune action." Furthermore, he recommended observing fevers up to 38.5 degrees Celsius even for children aged 4 to 5.
However, he advised taking medication or visiting a hospital if the body temperature rises higher or if symptoms such as headaches, muscle pain, or dehydration appear.
As these remarks spread, the Doctors' Association for a Fair Society strongly criticized the opinions of Oriental medicine doctor Kim Hyeong-bae. The organization pointed out that Kim's remarks are conveying incorrect medical information, explaining, "39.4 degrees is a high fever that could suggest a serious illness, requiring immediate diagnosis." They warned that since the causes of fever can vary beyond simple upper respiratory infections to include pneumonia, encephalitis, or sepsis, considering only body temperature alone could be dangerous.
As the problematic remarks could cause issues, the Doctors' Association for a Fair Society urged Kim Hyeong-bae to delete the remarks and issue an official apology, while also demanding measures from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Health and Welfare regarding the issue of Oriental medicine doctors using names and notations that could be mistaken for 'doctor'. Kim Hyeong-bae is garnering attention after recently revealing his romantic relationship with Aori, who has approximately 780,000 subscribers.
