- Where are the 9 missing Koreans?

On August 26, a massive flood occurred in the border region between Nepal and China (Tibet), causing thousands of casualties. Amidst the violent rushing waters, nine Koreans who were at a hydroelectric power plant construction site also went missing. Where could they be? The production team headed to Nepal to find the whereabouts of the nine missing individuals.

“They also need to return to Korea to be with their families.

I earnestly hope they can all return to Korea together with their families.”

“One of the families of the missing is currently refusing all food and water.

I can feel the heart waiting for her husband... I am worried about what might happen to him.”

- Acquaintance of a missing person's family

Our government has dispatched emergency relief teams and rapid response teams to the site, mobilizing helicopters and drones to put all efforts into the search. However, the actual scene in Nepal visited by the production team was so dangerous that even the search operations were not easy. The road leading to the construction site, where the missing are presumed to be, is damaged making access difficult, and the search was facing difficulties under the threat of secondary floods that could strike at any time. While everyone was anxiously waiting for news of the missing, unexpected news came from the hydroelectric power plant site. A Chinese worker, who had been trapped inside a tunnel of the power plant for as long as ten days, was miraculously rescued alive. Could the nine Koreans, whose contact has been lost, also be waiting for us somewhere?

“While there was an air pocket inside the tunnel, the water suddenly rushed in.

The air pocket blocked the influx of water.

I believe there is a very high probability of survival.”

- Life rescue expert

“We are also doing our best to provide support regarding the damage

and are doing our utmost for search and rescue.”

- Staff of the local company's response team

As time passes, the waiting of the families only deepens. Experts point out that this disaster is a 'complex disaster' that goes beyond a simple natural disaster and is a new crisis that could not be prevented with existing manuals. To prevent such tragedies from repeating, isn't it time to look back at what we missed and what we should prepare for in the future?

In SBS 'Curious Story Y', broadcasting on Friday the 11th at 8:50 PM, the program captures the desperate search scene as it directly visits the Nepal great flood area to track the whereabouts of the nine who have not yet returned.

A dangerous SOS wandering the streets

What is the true face of the panhandling youth?

Last August, a young man approached the father of Chae-eun (pseudonym), who was organizing a car trunk, and greeted him with a trembling voice. He claimed to be homeless and had not eaten anything for two days. Seeing him plead for help while even showing his ID, Chae-eun's father said he could not easily turn him away. Furthermore, upon hearing that he had lost his parents early, the father gave him food with a heart like a parent. How did this young man, who is only twenty years old, end up living on the streets?

“If someone says they are starving and sleeping in a park because they have no home and asks for help,

I think there is no one who wouldn't help.”

- Chae-eun (pseudonym)

However, not long after, another neighbor, Min-seong (pseudonym), also said he met the young man. The youth also poured out his pitiful circumstances to Min-seong, and Min-seong readily helped out of pity. But shortly after, residents who heard the rumors spreading in the neighborhood were shocked. It turned out he had reported the person who had paid for his meal to the police. Why did the youth report the people who helped him?

“I bought various things from the convenience store with a good heart.

What I got in return... was being reported for assault.”

- Resident who helped and was reported for assault

It was said that the youth habitually begged while wandering the neighborhood and even induced assaults, eventually leading to police dispatch. It is said that the local precinct even distributed flyers to warn about the youth. More than thirty reports of people meeting the youth and helping him were received by the production team. The citizens who believed his pitiful circumstances and helped him began to cast suspicious glances one by one. The youth, who changed his story depending on the person—saying he lost his parents to one, and that his parents divorced when he was young to another. Is the misfortune he speaks of the truth? Why does he report those who help him?

In SBS 'Curious Story Y', broadcasting on Friday the 11th at 8:50 PM, the program tracks the reality of the suspicious actions surrounding the youth.
