SBS and the Korea Handball Federation sign sports media partnership…

"A new Leap for handball, SBS will be with you"

SBS and the Korea Handball Federation are embarking on a journey to expand the base of handball, increase public interest, and discover excellent sports content.

On the 7th, SBS CEO Moon Shin Bang and Korea Handball Federation Senior Vice President Geum Han-tae signed a 'Sports Media Partnership' Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the SBS headquarters in Mokdong, Seoul.

This agreement was prepared to bring handball back to the people by linking the terrestrial broadcasting, content production capabilities, and the power of platforms spanning broadcast and digital held by SBS with handball. Through this, both sides plan to expand the base of handball and raise public interest, while simultaneously promoting new business creation based on the discovery of excellent sports content and enhancing mutual brand value.

According to the agreement, both organizations will join forces for: ▲ Cooperation in broadcasting and content production related to handball ▲ Promoting handball and spreading cheering culture using broadcast and digital platforms ▲ Discovering handball content through various formats ▲ Media support for the national team and major competitions.

The first stage is the special project 'Goal Girl Handball Cup' from the popular SBS variety show 〈Goal Girl〉. This project, which cheers for the handball national team participating in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, will broadcast a total of 4 episodes over 4 weeks, starting with the first episode on September 2nd. 'Goal Girl', which has expanded its stage from football to handball, is expected to deliver the charm of handball and cheers for the national team to living rooms nationwide using the friendly language of variety shows.

SBS CEO Moon Shin Bang stated at the signing ceremony, "SBS has redefined the essence of its business as a 'media content company' beyond the old definition of a broadcaster," adding, "If SBS's strengths in broadcasting, content production, and the power of broadcast and digital platforms meet handball, it will not remain a mere declaration but will become a practical step to bring handball back to the people." He continued, "To ensure that the sweat the athletes shed on the court leads to the applause of the people, SBS will be a reliable stage and partner."

Korea Handball Federation Senior Vice President Geum Han-tae responded, "Handball is a sport that has always written miracles amidst the passionate support and love of the people, but a stage that naturally permeates into people's daily lives was desperately needed." He added, "The journey with SBS, which possesses excellent production capabilities, will be a great strength and reliable support for all our handball family members." He also said, "I hope today's agreement does not end as a one-time event but becomes a great starting point for creating a new win-win model for sports and media."

Following the signing and exchange of the agreement, the representatives of both organizations conducted a 'signed ball exchange,' where they swapped balls signed by each other, symbolically capturing their promise to open a new Leap for handball together.

Meanwhile, the signing ceremony was attended by major officials from SBS Media Group, including SBS CEO Moon Shin Bang, News Division Head Yang Yoon-seok, Production Division Head Park Sang-wook, Business Bureau Director Lim Hong-sik, Marketing Partnership Team Leader Choo Yoon-gon, Studio Prism CEO Gong Hee-cheol, Variety 4CP Park Jung-won, and Variety IMC Team Leader Yu Min-jong, as well as Korea Handball Federation officials including Senior Vice President Geum Han-tae, Vice President Won Jeong-ho, Division Head Kim Eung-won, and Manager Kim Jae-soon, and Korea Handball Development Foundation Chairman Heo In-gu, all praying for a successful future for both organizations.
