The film 'The Odyssey' has reached 9 million viewers in South Korea just 27 days after its release, setting a new record for foreign films since the pandemic.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 145,919 viewers watched the movie on the 31st of last month alone, bringing the cumulative number of viewers to 9,018,501. This marks the second foreign film to surpass 9 million viewers since the pandemic, following 'Avatar: The Way of Water'.
In particular, 'The Odyssey' achieved this feat in just 27 days, less than a month after its release, succeeding in beating 'Avatar: The Way of Water's record by 3 days. With this, 'The Odyssey' has set a new record by surpassing all foreign hits from the last three years. It has exceeded the final viewer counts of 'Elemental' in 2023, 'Inside Out 2' in 2024, and 'Zootopia 2' in 2025.
The popularity of 'The Odyssey', which has held the number one spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks since its release, is expected to continue into the fifth week. Attention is focused on whether this film can follow in the footsteps of 'Interstellar' to become another 10-million-viewer film for director Christopher Nolan.
Meanwhile, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' holds second place at the box office, attracting 28,665 viewers to reach a cumulative total of 8,577,063. Following this, the third place was taken by the Korean film 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju', which had 18,101 viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 210,485.
