[Special Times] Reporter Choi Sun-eun=YouTuber Park Wi's channel has recently been embroiled in several controversies, leading to his past videos being set to private one after another. Park Wi received heavy criticism after releasing CCTV footage of a recent accident while boarding a KTX, which caused his subscriber count to drop sharply. Following this, he has set several past videos to private.
In particular, after deleting the CCTV video on the 23rd of last month, 13 additional videos out of 798 have been added to the private list. As a result, there are currently 785 videos remaining on the channel. Among the videos set to private were social experiment-related contents that had garnered attention in the past. These videos dealt with the issue of mobility rights for the disabled, and at the time, Park Wi aimed to improve social awareness through such content.
However, amidst the KTX CCTV controversy, these videos have come back into the spotlight. While many understood his intentions, they expressed critical views regarding the way the content compared the situation to overseas cases or used subtitles to paint a negative picture of the domestic situation. Regarding this, Park Wi has not released an official position, and the exact reason for the transition to private status is not known.
Park Wi suffered an accident where he fell from a mobile ramp while boarding a wheelchair on the KTX, and he became a subject of controversy when he disclosed this on his channel. The footage included the appearance of a staff member who was helping him at the time of the accident, which caused issues and sparked a controversy regarding appropriateness. Park Wi apologized for this and set the video to private. He admitted to not considering the position of the worker and conveyed his apologies.
Park Wi's channel subscriber count has decreased significantly following the controversy and currently stands at around 955,000. The controversy continues, and he has canceled some official schedules and stepped down from his position as a Seoul City ambassador.
Various opinions are being exchanged online regarding Park Wi's recent actions. Some have raised suspicions that he is belatedly trying to erase past traces out of awareness of the controversy, while others view it as a process of him organizing the situation. As the specific background for the transition to private is not clear, some opinions suggest that excessive speculation should be avoided.
