9th Meonae Village Film Festival to Open on September 9… 61 Films to be Screened Free at 18 Locations in Suji, Yongin
The 9th Meonae Village Film Festival will take place from September 9 to 13 in Suji, Yongin, featuring 61 films across 18 local venues.
The 9th Meonae Village Film Festival will be held for five days from September 9 to 13 in the Suji-gu area of Yongin, Gyeonggi-do. This year's theme is ‘Nevertheless, We,’ and the festival is celebrating its 9th year since starting as a small resident film club in 2018. All programs are conducted free of charge.
61 films to be unfolded across 18 spaces
This year's festival will utilize 18 spaces within the village, such as banks, libraries, schools, cathedrals, and welfare centers, as screening venues. Suji Nonghyup Dongcheon Branch, Suji Credit Union Culture Center, and Paik Nam June Art Center will participate, screening a total of 61 works. The opening film is director Yeon Sang Ho's ‘Face,’ which will be screened on September 9 at 7 PM in the main auditorium of the Suji Nonghyup Dongcheon Branch. Lead actor Park Jung Min is scheduled to attend the Guest Visit (GV).
Resident-made ‘I am a Director’ and youth recruitment
Through the resident production program ‘I am a Director,’ a total of 30 new works will be revealed in the elementary, middle school, general, and senior categories. Participants of various ages, from an 89-year-old senior director to a 5th-grade elementary student, took part. Additionally, over 540 entries were received for the youth director recruitment, more than doubling from last year, and the final 6 selections will have a special screening.

On September 12, an outdoor festival combining resident performances, experiences, and a red carpet will be held at the Mokyang Church grass plaza. Actor Ryu Seung Ryong and webtoon artist Joo Ho-min are participating as resident programmers and have contributed in various ways, such as producing the festival character ‘Kkomma.’ The Meonae Village Film Festival is establishing itself as a community-centered festival, having been selected for the Korean Film Council's domestic film festival support project this year.
