Billy Bean Music Appoints Shinwon Law Firm Amid Exclusive Contract Dispute with Yoo Da-bin... Files Counterclaim

Billy Bean Music, the original agency of singer-songwriter Yoo Da-bin, announced on the 16th that it has appointed Shinwon Law Firm (LLC) as its legal representative to respond to the lawsuit seeking confirmation of the non-existence of the exclusive contract's validity. Shinwon Law Firm is the firm that previously handled the exclusive contract dispute of the group FIFTY FIFTY, and along with this appointment, Billy Bean Music has entered into full-scale legal proceedings by formally submitting a counterclaim for damages to the court.

Regarding this matter, Billy Bean Music expressed its position that it intends to explain the contract performance details and Yoo Da-bin's breach of contract to the court based on objective evidence rather than an emotional war of public opinion. According to the agency, just two months after signing the exclusive contract in 2022, Yoo Da-bin requested band activities and participation in an audition program, and the company spared no full support, such as bearing the full cost of event expenses to foster the rookie artist's growth. It explained that after the audition ended, they were executing long-term investment plans, such as planning a large-scale solo project of about 20 songs and deploying dedicated producers.

However, Billy Bean Music pointed out that Yoo Da-bin signed an exclusive contract with another company during the contract period without the company's prior approval. The agency cited the prohibition of dual contracts under Article 6, Paragraph 5 and the confirmation and warranty clause under Article 13 of the standard exclusive contract signed by both parties, emphasizing that unilaterally forcing this was a serious breach of contract. An official from Billy Bean Music expressed concern that if the structure where the efforts of an independent label that took risks to nurture rookies are nullified by contract termination repeats, the foundation of the popular music industry could be shaken.

Billy Bean Music expressed its hope that the binding force of the contract and the weight of mutual responsibility will be clearly confirmed through this trial. Additionally, it added that it would clearly reveal the artist's failure to perform the contract and responsibility for unauthorized dual contracting based on documentary evidence and facts, and will strictly pursue legal compensation for the tangible and intangible damages caused by this until the end. Yoo Da-bin is the vocalist of YUDABINBAND, who debuted in 2021, and she recorded 3rd place in the Mnet band survival 'Great Seoul Invasion' in 2022 and is currently active under MPMG MUSIC. The second pleading date for the lawsuit between both parties is scheduled to take place on the 17th at the Seoul Eastern District Court.
