EBS 'AI Drama - Resurrection Class' 'Kierkegaard Episode' will be broadcast on EBS1 at 11 PM on Sunday, August 30. It is a program that uses AI digital restoration technology to revive historical figures and have them leave messages in their own voices in front of the camera; in this episode, the pioneer of existential philosophy, Søren Kierkegaard, is resurrected.
In the drama, Kierkegaard appears against the backdrop of Copenhagen, Denmark, in late June 1849. Immediately after returning from leaving the manuscript of 「The Sickness Unto Death」 at a printing house under the pseudonym Anti-Climacus, he sits before the camera and introduces himself, saying, "Hello, I am Søren Kierkegaard. An authority-less poet and thinker." He adds secretly that it must not be revealed that this book is written by him.
Thoughts on Street Ridicule and Despair
In this episode, titled with the subtitle 'Are You Despairing?', Kierkegaard first brings up the memory of being ridiculed by everyone from butcher shop children to university students following a dispute with a critical journal. He then unfolds the thought that 'a human being is the self, and the self is a relation that relates itself to itself,' conveying the argument that humans fall into despair when they fail to recognize themselves or do not wish to be themselves. It leads to the conclusion that just as there is no perfectly healthy person, there is no person who does not despair, and that only within despair can a human being finally face themselves.
Production Method through Original Texts and Academic Consultation
The dialogue and thoughts were reconstructed based on Kierkegaard's original works, such as 「The Sickness Unto Death」 and 「The Concept of Anxiety」, as well as his diaries, and the historical context was verified through expert academic consultation. The production principle—where AI does not arbitrarily generate dialogue but instead visualizes content that has undergone original texts, expert consultation, and human writing through AI technology—was applied to this episode as well, and the original Danish dialogue was also implemented. The program airs every Sunday night at 11 PM on EBS1.
