Genesis announced on the 26th that it will participate as a major sponsor for the 《Do Ho Suh》 exhibition, held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Seoul, from the 27th until February 9 next year. This exhibition is a large-scale solo exhibition highlighting the artistic world of contemporary artist Do Ho Suh, featuring approximately 500 works including drawings, sculptures, videos, and installations. Spanning from previously unreleased early works to ongoing new works, the exhibition allows viewers to explore the artist's investigation of architecture, space, and the body under the themes of home and movement, memory and identity, and the individual and community.
Major works include the series 〈Loving/Loving〉, which wraps spaces inhabited in the past in Hanji (traditional Korean paper) and creates rubbings with graphite and colored pencils; the 〈Bridge Project〉, which expands questions about 'home' into issues of coexistence with society and the environment; and 〈Who am We〉 (2000) and 〈Floor〉 (1997-2000), which deal with identity within the relationship between the collective and the individual. Works such as 〈Nest/Fields〉 (2024) and 〈Perfect Home: London, Hoxton, New York, Berlin, Providence, Seoul〉 (2024), which were newly produced or reconfigured with support from Genesis for the partnership exhibition 《The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House》 held at Tate Modern in London, UK last year, will also be revealed in Korea for the first time. In addition, the large-scale structure 'Seed Bank', which collects early works such as childhood drawings and university graduation works, and the new work 〈Memory of Sa-rang〉 (2025-2026), which encapsulates the relationship between the body, clothing, and home, will be exhibited. From December 18, the installation work 〈Apartment A, Hallway and Stairs, 348 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011, USA〉 (2012) is also scheduled to be additionally revealed in the large exhibition space 'Seoul Box' at MMCA Seoul.
Following its sponsorship of Tate Modern's 《The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House》, Genesis continues its sponsorship with this MMCA exhibition. A Genesis official stated, "It is meaningful to sponsor the 《Do Ho Suh》 exhibition, which allows for multi-layered contemplation of the roots of life at the intersection of memory, space, individual, and identity. We hope it will be an artistic experience for domestic visitors to newly view themselves and the world within their own narratives and discover values that transcend time and space."
Genesis has continuously supported culture and arts to promote the visions of world-class creators. It is developing global art partnerships with leading art institutions worldwide, such as 'The Genesis Facade Commission', which exhibits new sculptures and installations on the front exterior wall of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA, supporting the opening of the new building at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and sponsoring 'The Genesis Talk'. As previously reported by this publication, the 《Do Ho Suh》 exhibition opens on the 27th at MMCA Seoul, showcasing approximately 500 works.
