"My heart stopped because I was startled by a water deer" - The Binulchi Pass incident in Hwaseong.

A car crash with no external trauma? Lee Ji-hye sheds tears over the truth of the 2020 Hwaseong fall accident.

Broadcast: Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 9:50 PM on KBS2.

“The car is on fire! The passenger got out, but there is no breathing!” came an urgent emergency report. On June 2, 2020, at Binulchi Pass in Hwaseong, a vehicle carrying a married couple plunged down a slope. The wife, who was in the driver's seat, was transported to a hospital but passed away 13 days after the accident occurred.

While reviewing the case after it was transferred, the prosecutor in charge discovered a perplexing clue: while the driver, the wife, had died, the passenger, her husband, appeared to be perfectly fine. Re-examining the case from the beginning, the prosecutor uncovered a shocking and heartbreaking truth held by the deceased wife. The program investigates what truly happened at Binulchi Pass that day.

At the time of the accident, the wife's condition in the emergency room was severe; her heart had stopped and her brain was heavily swollen. However, no external trauma consistent with a traffic accident was found. Regarding the incident, the husband, who was a passenger at the time, claimed, “The accident happened because my wife turned the steering wheel in shock after seeing a water deer suddenly jump out.”

However, after the prosecutor sought consultation from several forensic experts over eight months, all provided unexpected answers, stating that it is nearly impossible for a heart to stop simply due to being startled. Subsequently, as the investigation team examined the couple's communication and financial transaction records, they began to uncover suspicious circumstances, finally revealing the reality of the bizarre incident.

Ahn Hyun-mo expressed anger, asking, “How could someone wearing a human mask commit such an act?” Lee Ji-hye eventually broke into tears, saying, “I cannot imagine how anxious the victim must have been, sensing the danger all this time. It breaks my heart to think of the victim who ultimately could not escape this situation.”

Meanwhile, this broadcast will feature former prosecutor Jeon Yeong-gyeong, who was assigned to and resolved the case, and forensic expert Kim Mun-yeong, who provided direct forensic consultation. They are expected to reveal the full story of the shocking circumstances and the suspicious cause of death of the wife. Additionally, psychiatrist Jeong Yeon-gyeong will appear to provide an in-depth analysis of the "psychology of a perpetrator who was driven to commit such a crime."

The shocking truth hidden behind the "traffic accident caused by a water deer," "My heart stopped because I was startled by a water deer" - The Binulchi Pass incident in Hwaseong, will be revealed on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 9:50 PM on KBS2 KCSI Smoking Gun.
