The production team of MBC's I Live Alone has denied manipulation allegations surrounding Jun Hyun-moo's spontaneous trip to Kazakhstan. In an official statement released on the 25th, the production team stated that they did not receive any filming support or sponsorship related to the trip.
On August 14, I Live Alone broadcasted Jun Hyun-moo receiving 50 hours of free time and embarking on a 29-hour spontaneous trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan. The broadcast showed scenes of him renting a car immediately after arriving at Almaty Airport and traveling 290km. Following the broadcast, some netizens raised questions regarding the fact that local car rentals require prior notarization of a driver's license, as well as the circumstances under which flight tickets were booked with multiple staff members accompanying him. Suspicions grew further when it was revealed that the city of Almaty had introduced I Live Alone on an official page within the Kazakhstan government website.
The production team explained that Jun Hyun-moo's trip proceeded exactly as shown on the broadcast. They stated that just before departing for Kazakhstan, they submitted an international driver's license and passport as requested by the local rental car company at the airport to rent the vehicle, and only after the broadcast did they confirm that a separate notarization process was required.
However, the Kazakhstan government previously announced through its official website on the 21st (local time) that the filming was conducted with the support of the Almaty Tourism Bureau. Along with mentioning that the Kazakhstan travel episode aired on August 14, they also noted that the broadcast received positive responses from viewers by introducing the city atmosphere, gastronomy, culture, and natural tourist attractions of Almaty.
Regarding this matter, the production team reiterated their stance that there was no sponsorship without further comment, and stated they would produce broadcasts by looking into details more carefully.
