It was reported through media outlets that The Korean Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong will hold the 'Mid-Autumn K-Festival Week' event from September 21 to 27 at Central Market in Hong Kong to expand the foundation of Korean culture in celebration of its 50th anniversary and the Chuseok holiday. This event is co-hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong branch of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), and was planned to reflect on the meaning of Chuseok, which is commonly celebrated in both South Korea and Hong Kong, and to vitalize cultural exchange. Central Market, which opened in 1941, is a representative landmark in Hong Kong with a daily floating population of 100,000 people.
During the festival period, various Korean cultural experiences and performances will continue. On September 24, a cooking live demonstration and experience event will be held by the temple food master Venerable Seonjae, and on the 26th and 27th, Chef Park Jun-woo and Chef Lim Hee-won, who appeared on the culinary entertainment program 'Culinary Class Wars', will each conduct demonstrations. Additionally, tasting sessions for Korean food brands such as Hoengseong Hanwoo and YOAJUNG, as well as chef masterclasses, have been prepared. In addition, various programs such as pop-up stores for Korean groceries and daily necessities, traditional Bojagi exhibitions, K-beauty makeup workshops, K-pop cover dance performances, and Taekwondo demonstrations are expected to welcome local visitors.
At the opening ceremony to be held on September 22, major figures from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the business community are expected to attend, and Kim Kyung-hyup, head of the Overseas Koreans Agency, will deliver a video congratulatory speech. Kim Jun-hoe, president of The Korean Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, expects approximately 1 million locals to visit this event and expressed expectations that it will receive great attention as Korean food has established itself in the premium dining sector in Hong Kong. The Chamber stated that although this event is the first case of cooperation with the Consulate General and aT, the local response has been so hot that they received a proposal from Central Market to hold it as an annual event.
The Korean Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, which has about 250 member companies including major domestic corporations, performs business network construction and projects to support economic and cultural exchange between South Korea and Hong Kong. President Kim Jun-hoe evaluated that Hong Kong is suitable as a testing ground for entering the Asian market because it possesses an excellent tax system and a simplified corporate establishment environment. This festival is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, InvestHK, Organisasi Pariwisata Korea, KOTRA, and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong, and is expected to be a venue for successful cultural expansion based on the increased preference for Korean brands.
