Oriental Land and Oriental Land Cruise have announced that the name of Japan's first Disney cruise ship, which will use the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal as its main hub, will be 'Disney Imagination'. The ship is scheduled to begin service in late 2028 (spring 2029).
Oriental Land and Oriental Land Cruise announced that they have decided on the name 'Disney Imagination' for Japan's first Disney cruise ship, which will use the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal as its primary departure and arrival hub. This ship is scheduled to begin service in late 2028 (spring 2029).
The company explained that the ship's name embodies the meaning of 'Imagination', which is considered a core element of Disney storytelling. They added that it also reflects the hope that passengers of various generations will experience the Disney worldview at sea. On the stern, Ariel and Sebastian from the movie 'The Little Mermaid' will be depicted drawing the ship's name.
'Disney Imagination' will feature a theater with over 1,300 seats, an outdoor deck performance stage, character greetings, three main dining restaurants, approximately 30 food and beverage facilities, spaces for children's programs, and adult-only areas. The industry is paying attention to whether the Disney cruise business in Japan will establish itself as a new growth axis following theme parks and hotels. However, the actual success or failure is expected to depend on the operational perfection and how consistently it can provide a differentiated experience after its launch.
