SBS to Premiere Hit Historical Drama 'The King's Warden' on TV for the First Time on the 26th

The historical drama 'The King's Warden', the 2nd highest-grossing film of all time with 16 million viewers, will be released on TV for the first time through SBS.

SBS 'Chuseok Special Movie - The King's Warden' will be broadcast on September 26 (Sat) at 9:30 PM.

In celebration of the Chuseok holiday, SBS will premiere the Chuseok Special Movie 'The King's Warden' on TV for the first time on Saturday, September 26.

Released this February, the historical drama surpassed 16 million viewers, ranking as the 2nd highest-grossing Korean film of all time, and this marks its first broadcast on television.

The young king Yi Hong-wi (Park Ji-hoon), who was ousted from the throne due to the Gyeyu Coup, is exiled to Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do. The village head Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin), who volunteered for the exile to save the village, is tasked with monitoring the king, but he gradually begins to care for the boy as he watches him lose his will to live. The film portrays the end of Yi Hong-wi through human connection with the people of Gwangcheongol rather than through power struggles.

'The King's Warden', which was released on February 4, surpassed 10 million viewers in 31 days and 16 million viewers on April 5, after 61 days. It subsequently surpassed 'Extreme Job' to become the 2nd highest-grossing Korean film of all time, and recorded the highest cumulative revenue of all time by exceeding 150 billion won.

There are three points to watch. First, the acting of Yoo Hae-jin, who won the Grand Prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards. Second, the rediscovery of Park Ji-hoon, who received the New Actor Award. Third, the visuals of cinematographer Choi Young-hwan capturing the seasonal feel of Cheongnyeongpo and the music by Dalpalan.

Yoo Hae-jin appears as the village head Eom Heung-do, and Park Ji-hoon appears as the young king Yi Hong-wi. Yoo Ji-tae as Han Myeong-hoe, Jeon Mi-do and Kim Min as court ladies Maehwa, and Lee Joon-hyuk and Park Ji-hwan make special appearances. The film was directed by Jang Hang-jun, with cinematography by Choi Young-hwan and music by Dalpalan.

An SBS official stated, "We determined that this is the work that best suits the Chuseok holiday when the whole family gathers. It will be a programming that satisfies viewers who missed it in theaters as well as those who want to see it again."

The Chuseok Special Movie 'The King's Warden' is scheduled to be broadcast on SBS on September 26 (Sat) at 9:30 PM.
