Son Tae-young, who worried about soccer schedules... Kwon Rook-hee receives Principal's Award with an average over 95
Actress Son Tae-young revealed on her YouTube channel that her son, Kwon Rook-hee, received a Principal's Award for maintaining an average score above 95. During the video, she also shared stories about managing her son's busy soccer schedule and their minor disagreements regarding his laundry.
Actress Son Tae-young revealed that while discussing her son Kwon Rook-hee's soccer schedule and school life, he had actually received a Principal's Award for academic excellence. In a video recently released on the YouTube channel ‘Mrs. New Jersey Son Tae-young’, Son Tae-young had a conversation with the production team at her home. She mentioned that she lets her son manage his own schedule, but she also shared stories about arguing with him over soccer uniforms and her worries about his studies as he is immersed in soccer.
Letting him manage his own schedule, while soccer schedules keep changing
In the video, the production team visited Son Tae-young's house carrying gifts in both hands. The crew also shared news that one of the staff members is pregnant, which surprised Son Tae-young upon hearing it. Later, when the crew asked about Kwon Rook-hee's schedule, Son Tae-young said, “I don't know. Because I told him to do it himself.” Since she lets her son manage things personally, she said she doesn't even know what time he comes home.
Son Tae-young also explained that the soccer schedule keeps changing. She said, “He has to go anyway, and the soccer schedule keeps changing. I don't know what time he comes home. Still, since Riho is still young, I have about 5 hours of my own time.” This explains that rather than parents checking every detail of the child's schedule, Kwon Rook-hee is made to attend and manage it himself. The video mentioned the son's life revolving around soccer and the time Son Tae-young spends at home.
When the production team said they were hungry upon visiting the house, Son Tae-young ordered Korean-style Chinese food. The cost for one meal was approximately 147,000 won. The crew was surprised after checking the food price, and the conversation led to a scene touring the house. During the process, the crew discovered an award certificate stuck to one side and picked it up. Son Tae-young replied that the certificate belongs to Kwon Rook-hee and explained that a Principal's Award is given if one receives an average of 95 or higher.
Principal's Award with an average of 95 or higher... also mentioning he is good at math
After revealing that the owner of the certificate is her son, Son Tae-young said, “It's Kwon Rook-hee's, and if the average is 95 or higher, they give a Principal's Award.” She also explained the criteria for receiving the award.
The production team mentioned they remembered Kwon Rook-hee being good at math. To this, Son Tae-young replied, “In our house, the natural sciences track is... a bit... we thought he was more of a liberal arts type, but he is a bit of a natural sciences type.” She expressed surprise at her son's inclination, noting that while she thought he had a liberal arts tendency within the family, Kwon Rook-hee is good at math.
Son Tae-young mentioned that she had previously worried about her son's entrance exams and studies as a high school senior. At the time, while talking to an acquaintance, she mentioned the situation where her son, a senior, is immersed in soccer, and noted that he even played soccer on the day of the SAT. Son Tae-young said, “He's a high school senior, is this the time? It's not the time to be all-in on soccer, so I'm worried. A high school senior shouldn't be 'happy' [carefree]. Even the school coach has all changed, so it's even more of a struggle. Why do they call high school seniors like this? The SAT was today. But he kept playing soccer. Of course, he studies at home. But from a parent's perspective... I don't know. He said he would handle it himself.” Although she added that her son studies at home, she expressed parental concern regarding him trying to manage both soccer and academics.
Separate club, school, and general soccer uniforms... argued with son over laundry issues
While touring the house, the production team was surprised to see laundry gathered in one place. Son Tae-young corrected them, saying it wasn't laundry but clothes that had already been washed. The clothes were Kwon Rook-hee's club soccer uniform, general soccer uniform, and school soccer uniform. Son Tae-young explained that the club soccer is a club one joins after passing an entrance test, and added that there are first and second teams within it. While explaining the reason for having several types of soccer uniforms, she also shared specific details about her son's soccer life.
She said that when Kwon Rook-hee asked, “Mom, where is my school soccer uniform?”, Son Tae-young replied, “The soccer uniform would be in the soccer uniform spot.” She then shared an instance where Kwon Rook-hee said, “Mom, you washed it. Don't touch my soccer uniform.” Son Tae-young explained that even after washing the soccer uniforms, words were exchanged between them as the son searched for his clothes.
Afterward, Son Tae-young said she made her son wash the soccer uniforms himself. She said, “So now he washes the soccer uniforms himself. If they disappear, it's his fault because he washed them.” She has made her son take responsibility for managing the various items, including the club and school soccer uniforms. In the video, Son Tae-young explained the situation where she clashed with her son over where to put the soccer uniforms and who does the laundry, and the crew continued the conversation while listening to the story.
Son Tae-young speaking of independence... “Isn't it right to send them away quickly once they become independent?”
Son Tae-young brought up the topic that children sometimes fight with their parents when they try to become independent from them. She said, “I heard that when kids try to become independent from us, they fight with their parents. To break the emotional bond.” She then mentioned that in America, children tend to leave their parents' side relatively early, saying, “Don't they leave a bit early in America? I think that's good. Isn't it right to send them away quickly once they become independent?” While talking about the situation of children becoming independent as they grow, she also shared the incident of clashing with her son over soccer uniforms.
In the video, while talking about Kwon Rook-hee's life, Son Tae-young explained that her son attends soccer schedules on his own and manages his soccer uniforms himself. Meanwhile, triggered by the award certificate in the house, the fact that Kwon Rook-hee received a Principal's Award for an average of 95 or higher and that he is good at math was also revealed. Son Tae-young, who had worried about her son focusing on soccer, had previously mentioned academics and the SAT in an earlier video.
In this video, Son Tae-young conveyed her son's soccer, school life, and happenings in the house to the production team. Kwon Rook-hee has decided to wash his own soccer uniforms moving forward, and Son Tae-young also revealed her son's achievement of winning the Principal's Award for academic excellence.
