MBC '100 Minute Debate' will be broadcast on the 1st at 11:20 PM under the theme 'From Negligence and Reduction to Cover-ups… “I Can't Trust the Police”'.

Social distrust is escalating as cases of negligent police investigations have emerged in succession, including the recent 'Director Kim Chang-min death case', the 'Jang Yun-gi case' where allegations of reduced or covered-up investigations involving the son of a current police official were raised, and the 'Jeju missing person false closure case'. In response, President Lee Jae-myung reprimanded the police for their lack of discipline during a cabinet meeting and ordered the establishment of a police reform body under the Prime Minister's Office, while the Democratic Party of Korea also launched a 'Police Reform Task Force' to respond.

What will be covered in this episode

With the implementation of the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act approaching this October, strengthening police responsibility and institutional supplementation following the expansion of investigative powers have emerged as urgent tasks. In this broadcast, Pyo Chang-won, director of the Pyo Chang-won Crime Science Institute, lawyer Keum Tae-seop, professor Lee Woong-hyuk of Konkuk University's Department of Police Science, and lawyer Lee Changmin will appear to conduct a precise diagnosis of the police system. The panelists are scheduled to engage in in-depth discussions focusing on democratic control measures for police authority and practical measures to strengthen investigative capabilities.
