CLO Virtual Fashion (CLO) announced on the 25th that it has settled a US patent infringement lawsuit filed against Zhejiang Lingdi Digital Technology (Linctex), the developer of the Chinese software Style3D. In the lawsuit filed in 2023, CLO claimed that Linctex used its patented technology without authorization and sought damages and an injunction.

Under the terms of the settlement, Linctex admitted that its software, Style3D Studio, infringed upon three US patents held by CLO (No. 10,733,773, No. 11,410,355, and No. 11,222,448). It is also reported that Linctex acknowledged that the patents in question are valid and enforceable. However, the specific terms of the settlement, such as the amount of compensation, were not disclosed.

Given that the litigation between the two companies, which were competitors in the 3D fashion market, was resolved with the opponent's admission of infringement, this settlement could serve as a milestone in intellectual property disputes surrounding 3D digital fashion technology.

Kim Ji-hong, CEO of CLO Virtual Fashion, stated, “CLO has invested significant resources and effort over a long period to develop solutions that will bring change to various industrial sectors.” He added, “Protecting intellectual property is not just a matter for our business, but a way to protect the value of ideas and create an environment for fair competition and innovation. Protecting the efforts of creators and inventors is essential for the healthy and sustainable growth of the industry. This result demonstrates CLO's commitment to these principles.”

CLO has been supplying 3D design software to various industries, including fashion design and apparel production, automotive, home goods, film production, visual effects (VFX), and gaming. The company manages a patent and intellectual property portfolio in the US, Europe, Korea, and China, and in 2024, co-founder and CEO Oh Seung-woo received an Academy Award in recognition of the contribution of the company's software, Marvelous Designer, to the film industry.
