Movie and Animation IP Collaborations with Brands Emerge as Key Drivers of the Fashion Market
Collaborations between brands and intellectual properties (IP) from movies and animation are becoming a mainstream trend in the fashion market…
Recently, in the fashion market, clothing and brand collaboration products utilizing the intellectual property (IP) of specific content are establishing themselves as the mainstream of the trading market. According to a report released by the trend trading platform Cream, as the tendency for consumers to express their tastes and fandom through clothing becomes more distinct, the trading of related products has become active.
Fashion items featuring popular IPs, such as the movie 'Spider-Man' series and the Japanese animation 'Bleach', showed high demand. In particular, Spider-Man related products saw a significant increase in trading volume compared to the previous year in line with the movie's release, and limited edition animation T-shirts with scarcity were also highly valued in the market. This suggests that beyond simple clothing consumption, the desire for ownership within fandoms is directly linked to market indicators.
The collaboration model between brands is also a major factor driving purposeful consumption among consumers. Products combining brands with different identities, such as Gentle Monster and Prada, or New Balance and JJJJound, showed a pattern of surging trading volume immediately after release. A representative from Cream explained, "The meeting of IPs with popular fandoms and brands with firm identities is inducing strong purchasing motivation in consumers."
This phenomenon shows that fashion has evolved beyond simple functional clothing into a medium that projects individual identity. In the future, collaboration strategies that emphasize specific IP or brand identity are expected to continue as a major growth driver of the fashion market.
