Former Jewelry member Ha Juyeon says she enjoys steady office salary
Ha Juyeon, a former member of the group Jewelry, shared her experiences transitioning from the entertainment industry to life as an office worker during a video on singer Noh Sa-yeon's YouTube channel.
During a recent YouTube video, former Jewelry member Ha Juyeon shared that she prefers the stability of a continuous salary as an office worker over the unpredictable income of the entertainment industry. After facing numerous job rejections following her 2014 departure from the group, she transitioned from part-time work in Hannam-dong to her current professional career.
According to media reports, singer Noh Sa-yeon's YouTube channel released a video on the 22nd titled "Jewelry's Ha Juyeon, who only waits for payday, during lunchtime." In the video, Noh Sa-yeon and Ha Juyeon, who is living as an office worker, shared updates while enjoying a picnic together. Ha Juyeon explained that when she is not working in the entertainment industry, her income is not guaranteed, stating, "I can only go when someone calls for me, and I couldn't just keep waiting for that opportunity indefinitely."
After finishing her activities with Jewelry, Ha Juyeon supported herself by working part-time at a cafe in Hannam-dong. She revealed that she felt ashamed of starting her professional life this way in Korean society. She shared that she submitted resumes to hundreds of places on job search sites but was rejected at the document stage, expressing frustration and wondering if it was difficult to find employment because she was older at the time.
Ha Juyeon later built up her career and became an office worker. When Noh Sa-yeon asked if she lives while waiting for payday, Ha Juyeon replied, "I like that." She explained her reason for choosing employment by noting that while one cannot receive money in the entertainment industry if there is no work, an office worker receives a continuous salary. She mentioned that as long as the company does not go bankrupt, the salary comes in, adding that she likes living as an ordinary person now after having lived as a celebrity.
Family stories were also discussed during the conversation. Ha Juyeon revealed that her mother is a graduate of Seoul Arts High School who majored in Korean dance, and her father is actor Ha Jae-young. When Noh Sa-yeon mentioned that Ha Jae-young was cool, Ha Juyeon replied that he still is.
Ha Juyeon joined as a third-generation member of Jewelry in 2008. She left the team when her exclusive contract ended in 2014.
