The short animated film 'Stitching Hearts,' directed by Hong Jeong-min, has received an Honorable Mention in the short film competition at the ILLUMINATE Film Festival held in Sedona, USA. Production company Studio Yeoubyeol announced the award on the 20th. The work was included among the 15 final nominees for the competition and also placed in the top 10.
A total of 648 entries from 67 countries worldwide participated in this competition. Approximately 90 seconds in length, 'Stitching Hearts' tells the story of a grandfather who loses a button filled with memories; through a button received from his grandchild, he retraces memories of a loved one and finds comfort from the pain of loss.
Director Hong wrote the screenplay himself and produced the work using the video generation AI 'Seedance 2.0' and the music generation AI 'Suno.' It took three days from planning to completion, with actual working time lasting approximately 10 hours.
“Rather than how quickly videos can be made with AI, it was more important to convey what kind of emotions can be delivered to the audience in a short amount of time,” Hong stated. “It is meaningful that a story made in Korea can reach overseas audiences through new technology.”
Having majored in theater and directing, Hong has participated in various video production projects, including the film 'Space Sweepers' (2021) and the Netflix animation 'DOTA: Dragon's Blood' (2021).
