Global project 'JBL Playback Gallery' celebrating 80 years of JBL sound
JBL will hold the JBL Playback Gallery exhibition to commemorate its 80th anniversary at Project Space Line in Samseong-dong, Seoul, from Saturday, October 24, to Saturday, October 31.
The JBL Playback Gallery is a special project touring major global cities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of JBL, designed to introduce and allow visitors to experience the history of JBL sound and the products that have represented different eras.
The exhibition will be conducted through docent commentary and demonstrations, allowing visitors to view videos and photos of JBL's 80-year history and innovation, while encountering legacy products and the latest models in person.
JBL heritage and sound experienced through collaboration with Korean artists
For this domestic exhibition, JBL has collaborated with musician and visual creator DAWN to present a newly designed 80th-anniversary logo artwork.
DAWN, who has presented an original style spanning music and visual art, reinterpreted the logo for the JBL 80th anniversary campaign, '80 Years Powering Voices,' using Korean formative language. The artwork utilizes colors inspired by traditional Korean patterns, bronze bells, and the Dancheong of traditional architecture. The repetition and symmetry of the traditional patterns express the rhythm and structure of music, while the bronze bells use their unique materiality to express the history and time accumulated by JBL over 80 years. Additionally, the colors of Dancheong are modernly reconstructed to harmoniously connect traditional aesthetics with the modern brand image.
The special logo completed through DAWN's reinterpretation will be used as the signature visual for the domestic exhibition, and eco-bags featuring the collaborative logo will be released as limited edition goods.
Furthermore, during the exhibition period, JBL will host 'JBL Music Talk' with DJ and producer/music curator DJ Soulscape to provide a deeper experience of the brand's history and sound.
JBL Music Talk will be held twice, on Saturday, October 24, and Friday, October 30, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, providing a time to experience JBL's 80-year history and sound through music recommended by DJ Soulscape. Participants can listen to LPs of music recommended by DJ Soulscape using the JBL 80th anniversary edition JBL L100 Classic 80, experiencing JBL's signature sound. Participants will also be given opportunities to view the exhibition and receive limited edition goods.
“It is meaningful to share the journey of JBL, which has been with music for 80 years, through this exhibition and to celebrate the 80th anniversary together,” said DJ Soulscape. “I want to share the journey of sound that JBL has created over the past 80 years more vividly with the audience through music.”
Carole Campbell, an executive in charge of JBL brand promotion, said, “Artist DAWN has uniquely embodied the values of bold creativity and individual self-expression that JBL has maintained for 80 years through unique Korean formative beauty. This artwork, which harmoniously contains the refined rhythm of traditional patterns, the rich colors of Dancheong, and the depth of time symbolized by bronze bells, naturally connects the legacy of JBL that has captivated ears worldwide for 80 years with the traditions of K-culture that are currently capturing hearts globally. It also elegantly demonstrates the brand's vision to more powerfully expand various voices that span eras and generations.” She added, “I am very pleased to decorate the climax of the JBL Playback Gallery project with young Korean artists such as DJ Soulscape, who has introduced the history and deep sound of the JBL brand.”
JBL has prepared various events so that visitors to the exhibition can experience the brand's 80th anniversary in diverse ways. Various participation programs, such as exhibition tours via Naver Reservation, on-site stamp tours, and SNS authentication events, will be operated, with participating visitors receiving JBL 80th anniversary commemorative goods and prizes.
The JBL 80th anniversary special exhibition, JBL Playback Gallery, operates from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. On the final day, Saturday, October 31, it will operate until 6:00 PM.
