Singer Kim Jung-eun has finalized a mutual divorce from musician Mr. Choi after 22 years of marriage, with Kim retaining custody of their child. Following the news of the divorce, which was finalized this past April, she is scheduled to release a new self-written song titled "Mom Was Beautiful" next month.
Singer Kim Jung-eun has undergone a mutual divorce from her colleague and musician, Mr. Choi, who is two years her senior, after 22 years of marriage. Her agency released an official statement on the 22nd announcing the divorce, noting that the two have agreed that Kim Jung-eun will have custody of their child. The divorce was finalized this past April, and the news is being disclosed approximately six months later. Kim Jung-eun's side explained that it took time to organize official positions with her former spouse due to complex interests intertwined over 20 years, stating, "There was no intention to hide it, but it took time to settle the positions of both sides."
According to media reports, Kim Jung-eun participated in the 1991 international song festival "Voice of Asia" as a representative of South Korea and received a special award. In 1994, she began her career as a member of the mixed-gender project group Maronnier. The group's "Cocktail Love" recorded first place for five consecutive weeks on KBS "Top 10 Songs," earning a Golden Cup. Kim Jung-eun also became well-known as a representative female solo singer in the 1990s.
During her time with Maronnier, a controversy arose regarding "lip-syncing and recording substitutes," where the actual participants in music recordings differed from the members active on broadcast programs. Kim Jung-eun, who was responsible for the vocals, also experienced the aftermath, continuing her musical activities by releasing her first solo album in 1995. The upbeat dance track "Proposal," which she wrote herself, and the ballad "I Love You" gained successive popularity. Due to the differing moods of the two songs, some even questioned if they were by the same singer.
Having suffered from vocal cord nodules during her solo career, Kim Jung-eun went through a long hiatus. Since then, she has continued her musical activities through OST participations and guest appearances. She is scheduled to resume her activities as a singer next month with the release of the new song "Mom Was Beautiful," which she wrote herself. Voices of support are following Kim Jung-eun as she prepares to release a new song following the conclusion of her 22-year marriage.
